Last nights game take away.

Post by sikeston bulldog2 »

Good morning.

Sixth inning. Runner on first. No outs.yankees batting. Leading 6-5.

Ground ball to Gorman left, can’t field the ball, trickles into left field. Runners on first and second. Another runner gets on. Rice hits the three run triple, now 9-5.

Had Gorman fielded that ball, a quite fieldable ball, we get a tailor made double play.

This is exactly the plays that will kill a team.

Next. Walker doubles to center. Ball was hit so hard the center fielder hardly turned around.

112 EV!! That ball was smoked. Walker is hitting better, and his EV’s are sky high. Had a 111 the other night.

Gray.

Got lit up again. On the couch. In his bed. He got light up again. I love the cocaine I love the cocaine. Mama can you wait- Buckcherry.

Sorry. Brain fart. I noticed him pulling on his jersey often, with a couple buttons undone. He looked warm.
Maybe there is something to the heat theory.

Burleson probably could have had an inside the parker. Held at third.

That’s it.

TLR always said “preventing the other team from scoring is job one”. Or something like that.

The ball tricked into short left so we know he got a lot of the ball. A quicker glove or first step was needed, if possible. It was ruled a hit. One play. But two batters later a guy having a career night lurks; and then drove in three with a bases clearing double.

Could have been one on, two outs.

Thanks for pointing out the subtle nuances that make the difference between winning and losing, Dog.

Just a play that stood out, and of course poor Gorman was involved. Can’t catch a fielding break. He did hit a home run.

Question- did you ever think of Pinson instead of Maris reference best Cardinal outfield.

No interest in fleecing Gorman. He’s just in a rut. The intent is to find a play or two that might turn the game. This play was 6-5, then 9-5. Had he made the play, that leaves bases empty two outs.

Whole different ball game.

There’s of course much more. Lots of hitting. Just one play that could have ended differently. Again, not saying he should have made it, but he got a lot of the ball, so he was there.

Red, try to stay positive...why are you negative?... the Cards were great in the 60s! (How did I do?)... figured you would be getting a similar post soon.

One difference I believe between the great teams and others, is how they view and interpret a game. and then implement the fixes necessary.

We called it an after action review. What happened; what was supposed to happen; how to fix.

I was a huge fan 60 years ago. I still remember Boyer making an error on an easy grounder to cost them a game. Even Harry Caray said, "I can't believe how we loss some of these games". (You did just fine!)

I remember Harry going after Boyer..."he POPPED' it up, we needed more from our cleanup hitter!"

It seems you’re telling me that they complained back in the day too? Who would have thunk it.

KMOX had a sports open-line, and callers could voice their opinion. It was brutal at times, and they would cut off the callers. And in those days sports announcers were much more critical than they are today.
