Cardinals are eligible for a lottery pick
I don't know how this got started but the Cardinals are not ineligible for a lottery pick next year. The JJ pick was not a lottery pick and non-revenue sharing teams are only ineligible to win a lottery pick in 3 consecutive drafts. I know the language in the rules was kind of confusing but it has been confirmed by the FO per 101espn today.

At least another top ten pick in the '26 draft would be very helpful in the rebuild. A top five would be "oh so fine".billybaseball wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 16:39 pm I don't know how this got started but the Cardinals are not ineligible for a lottery pick next year. Re: Cardinals are eligible for a lottery pick
we're a revenue paying team. Thus we can't in the next draft, pick above 10th. We won the lottery last year for the 2025 draft. Now we're on penalty. We stand in a solid 16th in the draft with a 61-61 record. The Angels are in the same boat as us, they won and pick 2nd in 2025, they are a revenue paying team.billybaseball wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 16:39 pm I don't know how this got started but the Cardinals are not ineligible for a lottery pick next year. Here's the current standings for picking in 2026 pre lottery....and the 4 teams that can't participate in that lottery.
101ESPN has it wrong.

the best we can likely hope for is 12th in the next draft. We're not catching Colorado and Nats....2 Revenue Receiving teams not eligible for the the lottery

Who in the Front office confirmed it to 101ESPN?

They dont deserve a lottery pick. Should not get rewarded for sucking on purpose.
Re: Cardinals are eligible for a lottery pick
It’s only fitting somebody in front office doesn’t know the rules
Re: Cardinals are eligible for a lottery pick
picking 12-18th in 2026 is better than this year....the College eligible draft is looking really strong and deep.
Re: Cardinals are eligible for a lottery pick
way too early mock from Perfect Game...but ...names you should get used to.
Kevin Roberts, Jr is an athletic beast....another Jackson Prep kid (Konnor Griffin's school). He's just as good at basketball as he is baseball...6'5" shooting guard.
Don't sleep on Ace Reese...I doubt he stays where he is in this mock, He's Top 10 barring injury next July

Maybe I'm wrong then. I don't know. Maybe Cardinals revenue is down enough this year that they will be receiving revenue sharing instead of paying in. That would make them eligible for this year I think but not sure what year's revenue they use to judge for the 2026 draft

Not sure but I was told they said it today on BK and Ferrario. I think I was misinformed because after I was told this I asked Grok and it told me yes they were eligible. Now it's saying no they are notFuturegm2 wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 16:46 pm I guess grok was wrong.

Stop asking grok stuff prolly, it's just doing an internet search and spitting back info from really dumb websites.billybaseball wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 17:14 pmNot sure but I was told they said it today on BK and Ferrario. Re: Cardinals are eligible for a lottery pick
they used 2023 revenue, because 2024 revenue wasn't known at the time of the 2024 Winter Meeting, where the 2025 Lottery took place....Dec 6th, IIRC. We won the draft lottery (joining 5 other teams). By the 2023 Revenue, we were a Paying team. You win the lottery once as a paying team, you take a penalty.billybaseball wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 17:11 pm Maybe I'm wrong then. I don't know. You and I went round and round on this in the Draft Thread several months ago.

Yeah I conceded but after today I thought maybe I wasn't wrong. Unfortunately looks like I jumped the gun and should have known better.craviduce wrote: ↑13 Aug 2025 17:17 pmthey used 2023 revenue, because 2024 revenue wasn't known at the time of the 2024 Winter Meeting, where the 2025 Lottery took place....Dec 6th, IIRC.
