Diminutive Dominance
"diminutive" generally refers to something small or of lesser size, "dominance" implies control, power, or influence.
The phrase could be used to describe a situation where a smaller entity exerts control or influence over a larger one, or to highlight the power of something seemingly insignificant.
Fantastic!
Henceforth, I will be using this description for Nathan Walker!
Thanks DD.
What other players could (or could have) this descriptor be used for?
Sobotka? Tucker isn't the biggest bully out there. Neighbours is medium-sized as well. Barbs 2019 perhaps. That one time Kyrou had a big hit? Does Tyson Nash make the list? I'd say these guys are mostly tweeners who are average size.
Small players who dominate(d) larger opponents physically. Who ya got??

Not a Blues player, but in my hockey fandom the ABSOLUTE definition of what you describe.
Theo Fleury
5'6" 180lbs of serious badassery. Played when physical brutality was king. I think he's the guy that is getting jobbed by the HOF now that Mogilny made it.

Johnny McKezsie was a tough little feller :
Interesting thing you can see in the 2nd clip. The penalty 'box' is sitting right amongst the fans. I wonder why that ever changed ?

Darcy Tucker.
Re: Diminutive Dominance
Good call on Fleury!
Got some guys to look up in this thread.
Re: Diminutive Dominance
Doug Gilmour. Bobby Clarke.
I know they weren't that small. But they weren't big at all either.

At least an honorable mention for Bob Bassen.

Re: Diminutive Dominance
I remember seeing games from the Montreal Forum where there was no wall or glass between the fans and the Canadiens bench. There were always men in suits & ties and a couple of pretty hot women as well. All VIP’s, most likely.MikoTython wrote: ↑08 Aug 2025 21:23 pm Johnny McKezsie was a tough little feller :

If you watch videos from the late 1950’s, there was only ONE penalty box, and the players from opposing teams were only separated by an off-ice official or two!!
Re: Diminutive Dominance
Bob Gassof. 5-9, nearly 850 pims in 3.5 seasons.
Re: Diminutive Dominance
Daniel Briere also carved out a nice career for a smaller guy

Re: Diminutive Dominance
Admittedly not a world beater, but one of my personal favorites was always Cliff Ronning. Carved out a nice little career for himself as a mighty mite.
