Sputtering Contenders

Post by nighthawk »

Since July 1st...

-- the Dodgers have gone 11-17 and have scored the second fewest runs in the majors, averaging 3.75 runs/game.
-- the Yanks have gone 13-16, allowing 5.58 runs/game -- the worst in the AL (Boston leads the majors allowing 3.21/runs a game)
-- the Tigers have gone 12-17, scoring 4.03 runs/game, the second worst in the AL.

Don’t forget the Rays, too. They are 10-21 since July 1st.

Entering July the Yankees were leading the AL East with TB 1.5 games behind them. Rays were the 1st AL WC.

Now, the Yankees are barely clinging onto the 3rd AL WC spot and TB is 4.5 behind them and 11 back in the division.

Then there's those darn Brewers in the NLC taking advantage by doing whatever the opposite of sputter is.

The opposite of sputter in this scenario is butter as in slick as, as in slip sliding away.

It's a long season and teams (and hitters) have ups and downs.

Not sure they ever attained the status of "contender."

Being hot right now is no guarantee you will be hot two months from now. If their bats go cold at end of sept . like any other team , they will be in tough spot.

If they play .500 ball, they’re in. That should happen. As to post season, crapppp shoot. The opposite of your scenario is, if they come in hot? If that happens, how would you see them?
