2nd lefty for our bullpen?

Pirates Outright Genesis Cabrera
By Anthony Franco | August 7, 2025 at 10:58pm CDT

Pirates reliever Génesis Cabrera was outrighted to Triple-A, according to the MLB.com transaction log. Pittsburgh designated the southpaw for assignment on Monday when they welcomed Johan Oviedo back from the injured list. Cabrera has the right to refuse the assignment in favor of free agency.

The Pirates were Cabrera’s third team of the season. He had brief stints with the Mets and Cubs earlier in the year. He pitched nine times for the Bucs after signing a major league contract at the end of June. He gave up six runs in 11 innings, striking out seven while issuing one walk. Cabrera is now up to 28 frames with a 5.79 earned run average. He has recorded a below-average 18.8% strikeout rate.

The fact that after trading away Matz we have only 1 viable lefty in the organization (Romero) is another indictment on Mozeliak. Leaving your MLB pen shorthanded is completely UNACCEPTABLE.
It is laughable how bad he has become.
Just another example of how poorly constricted the entire organization is. (Another example being thay nearly the entire AAA team hits lefthanded.)

This is spot on. Mozeliak has taken a perineal winner and screwed it up. Why has DeWitt allowed that arrogant, do-nothing to put his team in this position?

Cabrera is no worse than the scrap heap guys they've picked up in the last week to cover the rest of the season.

And a Johan Oviedo sighting in the same set of transactions.

Yesterday fans complained that Romero hadn't been traded.

Today their concern is there aren't more of him around.

Both days it's been the FO's fault.

Just take your 500 season and move along.

Lots of folks can’t let go of “winning” and get used to pitchers covering “innings”.
