W. Contreras
Being healthy this season at 1b should noticeably elevate his numbers
Lets review
Career 30-25 HR
2025 15HR
Career .258 BA
2025 .255
Career .818 OPS
2025 .786
Peak 74 RBis
2025 64
So Willson might have a few more RBI’s than his career avg……but other than that looks like same ole WC

Seems to be headed for 600+ plate appearances.

Those numbers are fine at Catcher…..some might even get all excited about it….but at 1b now it’s very averageBraund241 wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 22:01 pmA slightly below average player on a really bad team. Yes they all suck. Wash, rince, repeat. We get it. You're a ghost when they play well. You're just waiting for everyone to fail or slump to be like I told you so.Goldfan wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 21:55 pm Being healthy this season at 1b should noticeably elevate his numbers

OPS+ of 120. You don't understand what below average means.Braund241 wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 22:01 pmA slightly below average player on a really bad team. MehGoldfan wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 21:55 pm Being healthy this season at 1b should noticeably elevate his numbers

Re: W. Contreras
Contreras is a good player to have if there are a couple of guys that are better offensively.
Re: W. Contreras
He's a good piece for a good team. Transitioned to 1B well. Passionate for the game. Wants to win. Needs hitters around him.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 23:45 pmOPS+ of 120. He's also a tradeable asset if we waives his NTC.
Re: W. Contreras
Your first stat suggesting he’s a 25-30 hr guy? Hes never done that. Your last statement suggesting he’s below peak rbi is misleading, he’s on a 90 rbi pace.Goldfan wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 21:55 pm Being healthy this season at 1b should noticeably elevate his numbers

He’s pace has cooled….we shall see
BA and OPS below par…..
If Goldy were hitting, and he did, like this at 1b all would be saying its time to go…..and he did.
Re: W. Contreras
Like a lot of the offense, Conteras is a solid player that belongs in a major league lineup.
The problem isn’t that he is a bad hitter. Neither are guys like Burly, Noot, Winn, or Donny. The problem is they are role players that should be hitting 5th, 6th, or 7th and the Cardinals are counting on them to hit 2/3/4.

Re: W. Contreras
WC’s bat, like many on this team, are adequate when not relied upon to drive the offense, but as complimentary pieces to a couple big thumpers, like Goldy and Nado used to be.Goldfan wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 22:12 pmThose numbers are fine at Catcher…..some might even get all excited about it….but at 1b now it’s very averageBraund241 wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 22:01 pmA slightly below average player on a really bad team. Why anyone would think a 33yr with YEARS of stats in the bag would become an impact bat is puzzling
It’s puzzling why CTers would fall for it and more discerning why a MLB FO would fall for it
Re: W. Contreras
Contreras bat is quite good. The problem isnt contreras, its that the lineup also usually featuresBrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑05 Aug 2025 09:59 amWC’s bat, like many on this team, are adequate when not relied upon to drive the offense, but as complimentary pieces to a couple big thumpers, like Goldy and Nado used to be.Goldfan wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 22:12 pmThose numbers are fine at Catcher…..some might even get all excited about it….but at 1b now it’s very averageBraund241 wrote: ↑04 Aug 2025 22:01 pmA slightly below average player on a really bad team. 1. Nootbaar .704 ops and much lower after good first month
2. Arenado .660 ops
3. Scott .625 ops(also dropping after good start)
4. Pages .564 ops
And often if one of them isnt in the lineup, we imstead have(or have as 5th or 6th addition in lineup)
5. Gorman .709 ops
6. Walker .604 ops
7. Saggese .597 ops.
A lineup cant have 4-5 dead bats and expect to be successful.
I will give scott another year but no matter how good his defense is he needs to hit better.
Nootbaar should no longer be penculed in as starter for future.
Pages shouldnt be an mlb catcher.
Itd be nice to get a thumper bat but first we just need to get rid of black holes.
Contreras donovan herrera and burleson us a solid 4. Win is okay enough as starting 9 with his defense and okay offense. But after that the lineup gets dead.

The other issue is that the "solid four" are not great defensively. Contreras may be the best of the bunch. The other three are being targeted for the OF, but Burly and Herrera are arguably DHs being pushed into playing OF. Donovan is just an adequate OF.
