If you like the Pirates and Marlins model - Sure.

assuming the cards are going to be building a solid team going forward the 6 prospects will help a heck of a lot more than holding onto the 3 pitchers

The return may have been a little light but I agree. Something is better then nothing. The only one that might have gotten a qualifying offer would have been Helsley, what got for him was probably better then the extra draft pick

The disappointment is we won’t know for a couple of years as you mentioned. Therefore this so called reset is really extended 3 to 5 years before we are contending. It’s depressing. We will see what happens in the off season with trades and if they will spend some money. But right now not excited.

It is rare that a team gets all of its prospects to hit and turn into a winner. This was the approach with the Cardinals in the late 80's early 90's and was changed when DeWitt bought the team. Now we are in the same if do loop that doesn't work. It is very RARE that a team built with internal options (whether drafted or acquired) wins. If that was the case, the Rays, Pirates, Reds, etc would have multiple World Series wins across the group. The model does NOT work, the blind faith that Chaim will make it happen with a youth movement is another story line being fulfilled by an ownership group that is changing generations. This is Auggie 2 to Auggie 3 all over again.

They still have a log jam on the 40 man roster,what are they going to do about that?

Marlins make the playoffs next year. I would trade cards team for the Marlins. They have excellent young pitchers and a good offense.

no way helesley was getting a qualifying offer coming off this season

Evidently all the talking heads, evaluators, et al are wrong. NO ONE who I have read said the Cards won anything. IF not for the Twins the Cards FO would have been racked over the coals for getting a return of zip.

At this point you have to trust the scouts and front office. It's interesting that Bloom isn't speaking but I suspect he was involved.
