Red Wings Predicted To Trade For Justin Faulk
Red Wings Predicted to Land $45.5M Star Defenseman in Trade Pitch

The Detroit Red Wings could look to further bolster their defense, and one trade idea has them landing a top-four defenseman.
Heavy.com proposed a deal that would see the Red Wings acquire Justin Faulk from the St. Louis Blues in a blockbuster deal.
Red Wings acquire: Justin Faulk
Blues acquire: Erik Gustafsson, 2027 first-round pick
The trade would be an intriguing one as Detroit would make a big move to acquire Faulk to add some much-needed star power to the blue line, while St. Louis gets a first-round pick and a depth NHL defenseman.
The Red Wings would make the bold move to acquire Faulk, who has two years left on his seven-year, $45.5 million deal, so he’d be a key part of the roster for two seasons. Faulk is a good two-way defenseman who can be on a shutdown pair, but can also add some offense to the blue line. He recorded 4 goals and 28 assists for 32 points in 78 games.

I don't think this would help the Blues now nor in the future.
Re: Red Wings Predicted To Trade For Justin Faulk
I don't know if I'd give up Faulk for an NHL player and a 1st....
I'd be super impressed with Army if he could make that deal happen.

Appears to be absolutely nothing behind this other than one person's imagination. Slow time for hockey news.

Boy in the case the Blues defense gets a lot worse in a hurry. Like Faulk or dont like Faulk there is no internal replacement nothing in the near future thats for sure. We havent even seen Mailloux Im guessing hes at least a year away from being a top 4 RHD guy

Re: Red Wings Predicted To Trade For Justin Faulk
Predicted or someone proposed it and it has as much weight as someone here making a random trade proposal?
Re: Red Wings Predicted To Trade For Justin Faulk
In isolation this trade does not make sense for the Blues. I'm from Missouri, Mailloux has to show me he's ready for top-4 BEFORE I trade away Faulk. But yes, Faulk's salary is way to high for 3rd pairing. If Mailloux pushes Faulk out it would more likely be a deadline deal.
Re: Red Wings Predicted To Trade For Justin Faulk
Pending what happens this year I could see this trade at the deadline if the conditions were right for both teams but I just don't see it happening now short of a second move with that first by the blues.

Yeah, whether people like him or not, Justin Faulk is our best option at 2nd RHD. There aren't many, if any, left on the market to acquire.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 09:25 am Boy in the case the Blues defense gets a lot worse in a hurry. Until someone of equal value becomes available or one of the young guys gets a lot better really fast, Faulk will be here until his contract expires.
Re: Red Wings Predicted To Trade For Justin Faulk
It would be fine if we were at least getting another low-pairing RHD back. Then you could make the case that we will roll the dice on the young group and see what happens.DawgDad wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 09:58 am In isolation this trade does not make sense for the Blues. But this person obviously didn't bother to fully consider the needs of the team they'd be trading with. Obviously the 1st is the big get so maybe they thought they'd just throw in another player to trim their own depth.
We do know the Wings love adding players that have played here, though!
Re: Red Wings Predicted To Trade For Justin Faulk
Faulk is really good. He is very disrespected by about half the fan base.
He is really important. Not a perfect player--but darn good. He's needed here.
I wouldn't trade him this late in the summer. He would need to be replaced. Some journeyman D won't cut it.
Definitely better off with him. We have enough draft picks in my mind.
