Best Move the Blues Have Made
So instead of feeding the troll let's talk about bests. And this is a choose your own adventure as you get to decide what a move is. Draft, trade, free agent, front-office move? Have at it.
Re: Best Move the Blues Have Made
I like this idea!
To keep it simple, I will go back to last season and say trading for Cam Fowler was the best move. Came in and played big minutes on the top pair. And will do so this season and possibly going forward.

Re: Best Move the Blues Have Made
Trading for Wayne Gretzky.
Note, he was never drafted, not even in the Top 5. But seriously, as it turns out the best move that never happened would have been to immediately fire Mike Keenan the evening the trade for Gretzky was completed.

The best?
there's trading for Brett Hull at #1 and then everything else is a very distant second.
Signing Stevens
Giving Cujo a shot
Trading for Pronger
Trading for MacInnis
Promoting Chief
Promoting Binner (out of necessity)
Trading Federko for Oates
Signing Doug Armstrong

Re: Best Move the Blues Have Made
Well, recently, the obvious :
offer sheet boys
picking up Cam Fowler
even vet Suter holding things together early last season
working Snuggs into the line-up late last season
the 4th line chemo
I'm easy.

Re: Best Move the Blues Have Made
Brett Hull coming to Blues was awesome. Hull was my favorite a s a kid.
Some of my other favorites--(AT THE TIME--with the next two)
At the time--I was so pumped with this one..After struggling with injuries for the next two seasons, the Coyotes traded Tkachuk to the St. Louis Blues in 2001 in exchange for Ladislav Nagy, Michal Handzuš, Jeff Taffe and a first-round draft pick (Ben Eager), where he was re-united with former teammate Dallas Drake, who had signed a free agent deal with the Blues in the summer of 2000.[15] Tkachuk would leave the Coyotes ranking second in all-time goals (323) and first in penalty minutes (1,508), among other records.
The other one that pumped me up was Doug Weight.
Honestly I was very disappointed in the impact of both these guys. I thought we would be better. They were good Blues--not great.

Bret Hull was the big one that started it all. Stevens, Shanny, Oates, Craig Janney, Weight, Big Walt, Big Al, and Pronger ....pretty good list the Blues had at one time.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 11:41 am The best?

Gotta agree with Jack, it's Hull first.
Adding Stevens, Pronger, Petro - highly highly competitive years when they patrolled as #1s

Re: Best Move the Blues Have Made
A few that come to mind... the trades for Oates, Hull, MacInnis, Pronger (obviously highly contentious at the time), Demitra, Steen, Bouw, ROR. Rundblad for the #16 overall. Firing Keenan and replacing him with Quenneville. Replacing Payne with Hitch. Replacing Yeo with Berube. Taking the chance on Binner.
Re: Best Move the Blues Have Made
In 1996, Blues fielded an all-HOF power play for about two weeks: Hull, Gretzky, Hawerchuk, MacInnis, Pronger, Fuhr.ManitobaBlues wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 11:50 amBret Hull was the big one that started it all. Standing pat at 2019 trade deadline, sans del Zotto.
Re: Best Move the Blues Have Made
Our best trade was arguably our very first trade.
Selling for Barclay, Ecclestone, Sabourin and the other guy.

Re: Best Move the Blues Have Made
Trading for ROR, promoting Binnington, and promoting Berube directly led to a cup so that is your top 3 moves right there.
