Nootbaar, Burleson, and Donovan
MLB trade rumors reports that the Phillies and Astros are interested in these Cardinals.
Cardinals Getting Interest In Alec Burleson, Lars Nootbaar
By Steve Adams | July 31, 2025 at 8:32am CDT
The Cardinals have already shipped out Ryan Helsley and Steven Matz, and there’s plenty of work for their front office to do between now and this afternoon’s deadline. They’ve talked Phil Maton with the Blue Jays (among other clubs), and USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports that they’re also fielding offers on outfielder Lars Nootbaar, first baseman/outfielder Alec Burleson and utilityman Brendan Donovan (who’s reportedly been on the radar of the Dodgers and Yankees already — albeit before the Yankees acquired Ryan McMahon).
Two of the clubs showing interest in Burleson, Nootbaar and Donovan are the Phillies and Astros, per the report. Philadelphia is known to be looking to realign its outfield, while the Astros have been looking for left-handed bats — ideally one they could plug in at second base. Donovan fits that bill, though there’s certainly room for a left-handed bat like Burleson or Nootbaar to join the team’s outfield mix. Houston currently has journeyman former top prospect Taylor Trammell and struggling young prospect Jacob Melton taking on notable outfield roles.

Re: Nootbaar, Burleson, and Donovan
Donnie needs to bring back a good return or you keep him. Burley has less value, but some. Noot is a lottery ticket. Flashes of pretty good play, and tons of injuries. I don't mind losing any or all of them, but the return for Donnie better be pretty solid.12xu wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 08:48 am MLB trade rumors reports that the Phillies and Astros are interested in these Cardinals.

Interesting. Burleson and Donovan could bring back very good prospects noot could bring back a decent one. It would be interesting to see the cardinals sell high on a player for once12xu wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 08:48 am MLB trade rumors reports that the Phillies and Astros are interested in these Cardinals.

Re: Nootbaar, Burleson, and Donovan
Philly wants to realign its OF, so it shops for OFers in StL? Now that’s funny. Moe wouldn’t know an OFer if one bit him on his black socks with dress shoes and shorts.
Re: Nootbaar, Burleson, and Donovan
I wouldn't mind if Nootbaar or Burleson was traded, but i'd like to keep Donovan. I'm not sure the level of return you're going to get for Nootbaar. Burelson could bring back a decent prospect

Re: Nootbaar, Burleson, and Donovan
I'd deal all three if the return is there.
Donny + Maton should bring back some real value, needs to be a BIG offer though.
Bumbles on his own is a solid LHHer at 1B/DH for a team looking at a platoon.
Noot would've had solid value too had he not got hurt.......AGAIN.

Bloom has to control these deals. Mo has to get out of the chair now and let Bloom drive.
Also I heard Shady will be the PTBNL in the Burly deal. So there's that.

Re: Nootbaar, Burleson, and Donovan
Let's just hope there is some fire in these reports and not all smoke..... I would love to have Noot gone for a half decent prospect. We shall see about Burley or Donnie.
Re: Nootbaar, Burleson, and Donovan
I'll be shocked if any of them are dealt now, because:
1) Those aren't package discussions that can really be rushed last minute
2) They'll get at least as much this winter as they will right now, maybe more bc more buyers
3) Trading them drastically alters the roster in a way that it does not appear (although unconfirmed) Mo wants to do in his last two months before handoff to Bloom

Re: Nootbaar, Burleson, and Donovan
I'd bet anyone Bloom made the Matz trade (and I love the trade).
If they do deal Donny, then you're right Bloom has to be the guy to make that big a move.
Poor shadymaple, he's going to heartbroken if Bumbles does go today.

Oh, don't worry about Wally, he is like the hydra, a new sock will pop up with a new inflatable obsession. You can set your watch by it...rockondlouie wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 09:17 amI'd bet anyone Bloom made the Matz trade (and I love the trade).

If Donovan goes it better be for players that will be impactful no later than 2026.
I would hate to see him go

Fine by me, Noot needs to be gone, and yes Donnie needs to net a top prospect
