Cards trade strategy
looks like they purposely went for LOW minor leaguers per this from a Derrick Goold article in the PD:
A priority for the Cardinals at the deadline was acquiring players from the lower minors who would not create more traffic on the 40-player roster before a new front office leadership takes over following this season.

several Cards Blog/Tweeters have pointed out it mimics the 2025 draft...fireball pitching, young hitters82birds wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 21:51 pm looks like they purposely went for LOW minor leaguers per this from a Derrick Goold article in the PD:

Re: Cards trade strategy
Why is that the strategy ?
Bloom not allowed in the room?
That makes no sense to me.

Save yourself some brain damage and don’t try to make sense of anything Mo decides to do.blueboys69 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 21:54 pm Why is that the strategy ?

Re: Cards trade strategy
it says he was definitely in the room. Mo traded for what Bloom wanted. Say what you want about Mo, he made it easier for the Bloom transition.blueboys69 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 21:54 pm Why is that the strategy ?

Re: Cards trade strategy
I’m pleased with the trade although the players they acquired signal one thing to me: this team does not plan to be a serious contender until at least 2028.

Makes sense.
This team will not be competitive in 2026. It will be year #4 of paying the price for not using assets intelligently.

Re: Cards trade strategy
Ok now get something for Maton and Matz. Then pay to move Nado. Maybe those deals are combined.
Then the slate is clean for Bloom. Mo just needs to clean out his desk and get measured for a red jacket.

Re: Cards trade strategy
So basically this year is a total waste of time. Why wouldn’t you let the new front office start now making changes now? So you purposely undervalue Helsley just for a cleaner slate?82birds wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 21:51 pm looks like they purposely went for LOW minor leaguers per this from a Derrick Goold article in the PD:

Stupid and confusing.

Exactly, as the years go by and less fans show up to park. Where’s the urgency to win? This crew can’t even figure out a stage of figuring out anythingJatalk wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 22:06 pmSo basically this year is a total waste of time. Re: Cards trade strategy
A long shot, as you allude to. So much would have to go right in the next year for that to happen that it would place irrational expectations on Bloom, Cerfolio, et al.82birds wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 22:00 pmVegasVinny wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 21:57 pm I’m pleased with the trade although the players they acquired signal one thing to me: this team does not plan to be a serious contender until at least 2028.

I’ve been repeating myself a bit here today, so I apologize, but I’ve been away for a few days.
The team indicated to Goold that there will be little to no spending going into 2026, so we have a decent idea what next year will look like. In that same piece, the Cards are already laying out work-stoppage excuses for 2027.
It’s not a total apples-to-apples comparison, but coming out of COVID, the team blamed a lack of gate revenue as a reason to diminish spending. So, I expect that same chorus leading into 2028 when the team may look back fondly on 2025 attendance numbers.
Re: Cards trade strategy
We get to turn the page July 31st. We no longer have to make any sense of not trading Fedde or Helsley in the off season.Jatalk wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 22:06 pmSo basically this year is a total waste of time. When does Bloom become the face to the media?

Re: Cards trade strategy
Yes because our 40 man and potential 40 man players are full of future All Stars and HOFers. SMH JFC this organization just keeps [fork]ing things up. I was wondering why we got such low ball minor leaguers instead of minor leaguers that were close to the majors. Who the hell on our 40 Man roster are we so afraid of losing?!?82birds wrote: ↑30 Jul 2025 21:51 pm looks like they purposely went for LOW minor leaguers per this from a Derrick Goold article in the PD:
