Is Mo having a tough time finding quality trade returns?
His best chips are Helsley but Yankees won't trade their star minor leaguer - Spencer Jones
Donovan is a solid chip but the Dodgers won't trade their stud catching prospect.
Arenado is more of a dump to the Astros or Cubs without a stud prospect in return.

MLB Trade Rumors lists 6 teams with interest in Helsley. That should help push the return a little higher. That may go down to the last hour.
Donovan, I don't think is going anywhere.
Maton, probably gets traded before Helsley. Matz, well if they trade Maton and Helsley it won't surprise me if he stays to serve as part of the 8th/9th inning solution for rest of this year

Rangers, Yankees Among Teams Interested In Ryan Helsley
By Nick Deeds | July 29, 2025 at 12:45pm CDT
As the Cardinals head into the deadline as likely sellers, a handful of the club’s players are getting significant attention on the trade market. Of the team’s major pieces, no player is more likely to be moved than closer Ryan Helsley, a free agent after the 2025 season. The Dodgers and Mets have already been connected to Helsley in some capacity this summer, while the Phillies were known to have interest in the closer earlier this year and the Blue Jays were among the clubs to check in on his availability this past offseason. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports that all four of those teams remain current suitors for Helsley, and adds two more interested teams to the pile: the Rangers and the Yankees.

I could see the Rangers trading for Maton, Helsley, or Matz. Sounds like they’re being aggressive and looking for bullpen help.
Re: Is Mo having a tough time finding quality trade returns?
currently I'm watcing the Orioles/Blue Jays.
14-3 Orioles in the 7th.
each reliever Blue Jays bring in gives up at least one homer.
looks like blue jays could use bullpen help

Re: Is Mo having a tough time finding quality trade returns?
If YOU were the Yankees ,would you trade your star minor leaguer (that you have 6 controllable years for MLB) for a 2 month rental reliever.
Once the season ends , Helsley is free to sign with anyone and could leave the Yankees.
Think of it from a Cardinal perspective , let's say the Cardinals were in position like the Yankees and they had Helsley , if you were the Cardinals GM would YOU trade JJ Wetherholt for their Helsley for a 2 month rental . No way Jose ! Right ?
Though Arenado playing value isn't high , a team wanting Nado would at leas have him under contract for not only these two months but for both 2026 & 2027 . He is not a 2 month rental .
Re: Is Mo having a tough time finding quality trade returns?
7 of the Blue Jays top 10 prospects are pitchers by MLB, so if we’re looking for pitching prospects, too, maybe that is attractive. No idea how good their system is though.

Mo has leverage. Hopefully he uses it with some measure of competence.

It’s totally different perspective from STL to NYY. The Yankees haven’t won a WS in 16 years. Their fan base may be antsy and Cashman may be antsy and if they feel like Helsley could be a piece that puts them over the top, they may be more willing to give up something to get him. Now is that Jones? I don’t know. We don’t even know how the Cardinals view him. He struck out 200 times last year and while better this year has still struck out a ton. And 200 K’s in the minor leagues is VERY tough to do. Shorter season and worse pitchers and all, especially when the player was like 23 in AA, not exactly young for the league.ramfandan wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 14:11 pmIf YOU were the Yankees ,would you trade your star minor leaguer (that you have 6 controllable years for MLB) for a 2 month rental reliever.

from what I've been reading, the Yankees would be especially loathe to make Jones available.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2025 14:15 pmIt’s totally different perspective from STL to NYY.
