NHL Travel Mileage Totals for All 32 Teams After 2025-26 Schedule Release

Julia Stumbaugh
Jul 28, 2025

The Edmonton Oilers and the Pittsburgh Penguins will rack up the most mileage in the NHL while traveling during the 2025-26 season, according to Bookies.com's Bill Speros. Speros' report follows the NHL's July 16 release of the full schedule for the upcoming campaign, which will feature two NHL Global Series games between the Penguins and Nashville Predators in Stockholm, Sweden this November.

Despite the fact that the Oilers are staying in North America next season, Connor McDavid's team is set to lead the league in miles traveled in part because of seven away games scheduled for an 11-day span between Nov. 12 and Nov. 22. This stretch has the Oilers set to visit Philadelphia, Columbus, Carolina, Buffalo, Washington D.C. and Tampa before concluding the span with a Stanley Cup Final rematch against the Florida Panthers in Sunrise.

The Penguins, meanwhile, rank second in travel mileage not only because of the team's November trip to Stockholm but also because the franchise is embarking on an NHL-high 22 separate road trips this season, per Speros. The Penguins are seeing a significant increase in travel time after ranking 32nd with 31,700 miles traveled last season, per TJ Stats.

What did Pittsburgh do to (bleep) off the league scheduler? Usually there’s quite the travel advantage from being in the East.

4th least among Western teams for the Blues. Not bad.

Would not expect rangers and islanders to be so different. But

Good to see both Dallas and Nashville getting worn out in the air. Granted Nashville's include the overseas games with Pittsburgh, but the effects still can linger for a few games after they get back. It all adds up.

And Pittsburgh travels 50% more miles than Columbus, which is only 180 miles west.

I figured out part of it. The Pens are playing 2 games in Stockholm against the Preds in November. That’ll certainly add some miles! Still probably doesn’t account for all of the difference though.

They'd still have the most travel in the East but if that was merely a round trip from Pittsburgh to Nashville it would knock about 7,000 miles off of their total. 8O

I guess miles in a chartered flight for the young doesn't mean much.

For me, at my age and I made their money, I'd rank it over state taxes in my selection process.

I agree with Absolut. What is happening in NY?
Doesnt seem right that there would be that big of a difference in miles traveled. You'd think the Rags, Isles, Sabres and Devils would all be close to the same amount of miles.

There is also a team called Bookies.com which apparently is not allowed to travel,

The Rag's have the Winter Classic in Miami.

That covers about 2500 miles. Still about a 10K gap.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Islanders just got really lucky this year I guess.

It bugs me that it says "miles traveled" and the season hasn't even started yet.

Yeah, I am that guy. Tense matters.

I'm on a plane right now and the fact that the NHL doesn't have to travel like this means IMO none of this should matter. I'm in an exit row aisle which for modern travel other than being up front is great. Next to me is a hefty fella (i'm not a hefty fella) and he's doing the modern thing where he doesn't understand the invisible line that creates personal space. He's got the legs spread like hes a chick about ready to receive oral after a fun date. Dude, close up shop. There is a lady about three rows up who was listening to something without headphones until someone complained (not me). People did the thing where it was time to board and those with group 11 lined up with the first class folks creating a disney ride line like atmosphere.

Pro athletes encounter none of this. Yeah, they have to fly a sheet ton. But it's private terminal to private terminal. No TSA hassles. No baggage claim waits. No man spreaders in middle seats. No screaming kids. Off the plane onto the bus. I guess I get the point of this thread but I don't have the slightest amount of empathy for any of these teams, especially given what these guys make.
