Mo could save face if

Post by OldRed »

If he could make some decent moves that would excite the fans and improve the future. I know this isn't his first rodeo, but it is his last and I'm sure he doesn't want to fail in his last.

He could only save face if he stepped down effective immediately.

One week from today could help define the Cardinals' future for the next few years. Let's hope Mo delivers.

+1

If he oversees this trade deadline about the only caliber of move that could save his face is spinning Luken Baker into one of the Miami pitchers.... iow it ain't happening.

It would be hard to totally save face at this point but there is an easy way to reengage the fan base the last two months.

There is one thing that professional athletes like as much if not more than their salary. That is playing time.

It would be uncomfortable but leaders make uncomfortable decisions all the time so you go to Arenado and tell him, you either waive to a contender or you sit for the next two years.

Players start thinking about their legacy and in Arenado's case, his HOF resume. Sitting for two years and accumulating few additional stats doesn't help that cause.

You move Arenado and then put Donovan at third and bring up Weatherholdt. Walker has to play everyday and hit in the same spot in the lineup everyday. You have to give him every, little chance and hope he isn't a flop. I think he is but you have two months to truly find out.

That is a path that fans would get behind.

That would require two things that may or may not be possible. One if for Mo to grow a pair and the other is for any contender to take Arenado. The CArdinals should next expect much, if anything in return.

Option A: dump payroll for lotto tickets. This will NOT change the direction of the franschise or save his face. It will just make BDW happy
Option B: trade excess players with actual TV for proven players (or truly MLB ready top prospect like a Spencer Jones) with control. This might hurt or it might help a lot in the end. Its the only move that has the chance of making an impact.
Option C: Re-arrange the deck chairs on the titanic...er ..the bullpen...

Gotta trade Helsley, but other than that, I'm not sure I want Mo to make any major trades. Knowing him, he'd leave home with Jordan Walker and come back with a bag full of magic beans.

A thought popped in my mind when you stated t would be uncomfortable but leaders make uncomfortable decisions all the time so you go to Arenado and tell him, you either waive to a contender or you sit for the next two years.

I highly doubt Mo would make that statement to Arenado .. for if he did , wouldn't Arenado reply Oh really, you are retiring in 8 weeks and you are telling me I won't play for the next two years if I do not waive. Did you bounce that off, Chaim Bloom , Mo ? For he would be running the show ,NOT you ! Never heard of any retiring boss who after he leaves his position dictates what an employee will or won't do for his job after he is gone. Thanks though for the heads up ! CLICK ! end of call

I have no belief that Johnny bow ties will do anything substantial during the deadline. Any trade will basically equate to a salary dump.

Yeah he is limping to finish line.

Let Bloom make the decisions.
