Can these hockey canada players now sue the girl for damages?

Post by ZouMiz2424 »

Careers were ruined because of this. I think they'd have grounds.

She didn't decide to press charges, the Crown did.
She didn't even cooperate the first time the Crown approached her, IIRC.
The fact that the judge found the Crown failed to prove a lack of consent doesn't mean these guys are innocent angels, it just means the Crown didn't do a very good job and/or there wasn't enough evidence.

The facts remain that these guys surrounded a girl in a hotel room bed, armed with golf clubs.

That's what ruined their careers.

There is zero reason to go after the girl. None at all. It would blow up in their faces. And what would they get out of it? Is she rich? Be serious.

Yeah, this isn't a Trevor Bauer situation.

What they did wasn't good and there's no way you want to continue to drag this on if you ever have any hopes of having a career. After today if you are any of those guys you never want to speak of this again.

Can't let facts get in the way of OP's agenda

No. They already entered into a settlement her along with Hockey Canada. The Crown brought the charges as has been duly noted already. Unless she did something that violated the agreement, no basis. Do you think they want to rehash it all out in discovery --- " So can you read me back exactly what you texted your buddies Mr. MCCloud?"

OP has an agenda?

They asked a question they didn't know the answer to. If they knew the answer they wouldn't have asked the question. How does that mean they have an agenda or an opinion?

Chill.

On what grounds could they possible sue her?

For them to sue her for lying, they would then have to prove that the sexual assault did not occur, which is probably as hard as proving it did. Remember the courts did not rule that the sexual assault did not happen, but only that the prosecutor could not prove that it did. Their case against her would be as difficult to win as hers was against them.

That and she didn’t even bring the case. The Crown did.

They’d need irrefutable proof she lied. There’s no way they have that. Also, they’d probably look horrible in the court of public opinion to go after her.
