Bernie lays out why the Cardinals must go full-sell mode at the 2025 trade deadline, criticizes the team’s lifeless performance post-All-Star break, and calls out the dangerous consequences of clinging to delusion. It’s time to move on, and Bernie doesn’t hold back.

People expecting major changes when Bloom takes over are going to be disappointed until the lockout is over. I just don't see the Cardinals making sweeping changes until then.

Nailed, as usual.
Mikolas comes in for well justified disdain (to say the least).

Obviously III is running the show
If you remember from the end of year Press conf…there was a question directed to Mo about payroll or finances and he awkwardly with some attitude
Redirected the question to III…..Even Mo might have some frustration with DeWitts. It would be irony of all ironies if they’ve administered the handcuffs on MO and have made him look the fool through all of this

It almost definitely is the DeWitts' fault, but what money they have allowed Mo to spend over the years has been spent really, really stupidly.

Agreed.

There are already some major changes taking place. The Cardinals have brought multiple smart people from outside the organization. Maybe the echo chamber is gone (is gone, is gone). A year ago we would not have broken camp with Victor Scott II, or with Liberatore in the rotation. Wouldn't have happened. They would have handled Jordan Walker the way the have always handled Jordan Walker. There several minor league players that have been floundering for years that have put it together and started to move- notably Nathan Church and Joshua Baez. That's no small thing, and there are others. We've seen a different draft approach that seems intelligent. So if the major changes you seek are additional payroll, I agree we will be disappointed. There are important things happening, but eventually...

This has been many of our opinions for a long time. It was obvious that they weren't good enough to get in, much less go far, in the playoffs.

Uh...we did break camp with Scott last year.

Agree about Liberatore. Scott absolutely should not have broken camp with the 26 man roster, I don’t understand what you’re trying to say about Walker. Idk how you can definitively say that church and Baez are playing well bc of bloom & co. Chase Davis hasn’t figured it out. Koperniak has been bad. Mathews has been hurt and bad. Tink and Roby continue to get injured. The point is you can’t give the credit to the new regime bc two guys are starting to figure it out.
Maybe the draft approach is different. However, the Cardinals don’t pick 5th ever, so it’s probably more so that than anything else. And if the philosophy is drastically different, than why is Flores still around? I’m not disagreeing that things are changing. I am stating you really don’t know how much of anything is due to the incoming regime.
And I was mainly talking about the big league roster. Any make investment won’t happen until after the lockout. I think most of baseball will play the same game. Not a good year for Kyle Tucker to become a free agent.
If the cardinals hold on to Helsley, they should think twice about a QO. They need to trade him, or they may be paying him $20M+ next season

Exactly right. The owner isn’t going to get free agent talent. And there isn’t one quality player currently on the roster.

DeWitt has a choice. Open his wallet or suck for 3 years and lose a big $ with 10,000 fans. Not to mention the reduction of TV subscriptions to his app.
