What Does The Blues Mount Rushmore Look Like?

Post by TBone »

I'm not sure who would be on mine, but the writer's selection of Adam Oates would not.

Anyway, the topic is a little off-season fodder while waiting for training camp.

What does the Blues Mount Rushmore look like?

By Justin Bonhard

There may not be one clear answer on who would be regarded as the best player in St. Louis Blues history. Now entering their 58th season as apart of the National Hockey League, there have been many legendary players to wear the Blue Note.

That being said, these four should be atop the Mount Rushmore of Blues.

The author got it half right, maybe even 3/4. Hull and Federko for sure, I put Binnington up there for the Cup and career wins leader, then I couldn’t argue with Plager, Pronger, Sutter, Unger or several others

Well if that’s the only criteria then Gaston Gingras, Charlie Bourgeois, Patrice Tardiff, Vincent Reindeau

Any list without a Plager is wrong and proves that the writer is looking only at points. Bobby is our George Washington, he created the Blues brand.

Fun Topic but I got to ask how you define it. If it's most important then for me it's; Hull, Federko, Bob Plager and Brian Sutter. On the other hand, if your asking who the best player to ever wear the Note is it gets tougher. Without giving a minimum game criteria doesn't Gretzky have to be on it? For the sake of argument, I'll add longevity to the equation. That would change things a bit. Hull and Federko are locks but it gets harder after that. MacInnis has a statue. Pronger may get one. That gets you considered. Shanny, Bennie and Cujo are all possible candidates. I think I'll got with Hull, Federko, MacInnis and Pronger. Ask me tomorrow and it will probably change.

Really good question. There is always recency bias. I really do appreciate humor and the chuckle, but the serious PLAYER names above are all worthy. You have to make the cut somewhere...Gary Unger was the MVP for about 7 years straight during a good era of filled arena seats, so it just feels like this Mount needs to include at least 5 including him. Note, I feel the number 7 doesn't hang with a name, because there is not room for all three of Berenson, Unger and Tkachuk on it.

Need to replace the Cup with a 3rd round pick and you’ve got it

It's an interesting question and would be next to impossible to pull it off because many of our best players played in an era where we never sniffed the cup. A couple Stanley Cup visits would change that and make it way easier. But I'll take a stab at it.

Plager
Hull
Federko
Binner (assuming he finishes his career a Blue)

The last caveat can be replaced by a few players very easily, especially a guy like MacInnis who has spent a decade with the blues and 2 decades working for the Blues. He has been more influential on the Blues org than many people realize because it's all behind the scenes. But his fingerprints are on that cup team as well so he would be my 4th person if we had to end the voting today.
