Stephen Colbert's CBS "Late Show" Will End in May

Post by Pink Freud »

It's currently the most-watched show in late night TV. The network said it's strictly an economic decision (after paying a $16 mil lawsuit settlement). Any "Late Show" fans here?

It was indisputably because Trump demanded it as a condition of the feds giving the green light to Skydance Media's acquisition of Paramount Global (as was paying off Trump with the $16M bribe to make a frivolous lawsuit disappear). Supposedly Jon Stewart has reason to be concerned about his job security as well (Paramount also owns Comedy Central). The late night variety show format is dying out because linear television in general is a dying medium, but this wasn't because of the show's ratings.

Precisely why "Chinatown" remains my all-time favorite movie...which I saw in October 1974 during a personal devastation wrought by "the bad guys"...who won bigly. That was the first movie I ever saw where the bad guys, due to more money, power, and FEAR....beat the good guys over and over.

2025: Blather...wince...repeat.

Good points. That excellent film, though, wasn’t the revelation to me it was to you. Something very ironic in Polanski’s take-down of the patriarchs and what came after, eh ?

The head of Skydance is David Ellison. The individual supplying the cash for the Skydance-Paramount merger is......David's daddy, Oracle founder Larry Ellison. Look for CBS to become Fox-lite shortly.

I thought Gutfeld's show was the most watched late night show. Will I get flagged for saying Gutfeld?

Well, if Trump demanded that it be shut down in order for the deal to go through then, once again, we're seeing how addle minded he is.

Colbert now has nothing to lose. This will be "must see TV" for the next year. Colbert will skewer him nightly. It's going to "11".

(And for an added thrill, tune into "Our Cartoon President" - Colbert produced it.)

I’ve never seen anything funny from it. That vaccine dance bit, one of the worst. The clapping seals are mad though I guess.

I bet, though, you thingk Gutfield is the cat's pajamas. Just a whild guess ;)

What's funny to me is, as the house burns down and nero fiddles about, we all have to worry about making the wrong peep. That's a scuh-ream. Ironic, even, in all the worst conceivable ways & means.

I don't want to get into all the politics of this, blah blah blah, but I love Jon Stewart. I wish he had his own show full-time, but he apparently doesn't want to go back to that, or do anymore shows on AppleTV (The Problem with Jon Stewart).

I sort of expect the grind got to him. So now he picks his spots. The thing about JS, he doesn't toe anyone's line. When there was this sort leftish pretension that a lab-leak was 'out of line', he shows up on Colbert's show and does this :

Ha, I do enjoy Gutfeld from time to time, but it’s more of a news/politics show with comedy sprinkled in. Gutfeld can be funny sometimes, but I more enjoy certain guests like Kat and Jamie Lissow.

But anyway, if you think a mediocre-at-best comedy show being cancelled is some huge threat to our democracy, I think you’re overreacting. If Gutfeld starts to not make business sense, his show will be off the air.

BTW, I have thought of something funny from Colbert. His Severance/The Office parody skit was hilarious.
