Another St. Louis Blues Prospect Benefitted From Being Captain, Ready To Take Next Step

Burns is another of the top-end prospects in the organization, one that is wiser than his years. He just finished his fourth and final season with Kingston of the Ontario Hockey League, putting up his best numbers in goals (eight), assists (41) and points (49) in 66 regular-season games, leading the Frontenacs to the second round of the playoffs. His plus-45 was tied for ninth in the league.
And doing so as the captain of the team, just like fellow prospect, 2024 second-round pick Lukas Fischer with Sarnia last season, where Burns learned the value of leading while bettering his development.
"I would have loved to win," Burns said of playing in Kingston, where he played 220 games in four seasons. "I'm sure everyone would say that they'd love to win, but I think development-wise, it was a great four years. Kingston treated me so well. They helped me get to this point. Now it's on me to make that jump. With everything they've done for my development, I want to do it for them as well, show them that they did a great job."
The Blues now have a feel for who they're getting. There's been so much talk about the puck-moving defensemen in the system that can provide offense from the defensive position. Burns shows a steady diet of jumping into plays, but his 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame -- and getting bigger -- was built for playing the rugged, physical style. Burns had 100 or more penalty minutes in each of the past three seasons.

Thanks for posting. I'm no expert by any means so it's good to see some positive reviews for the prospects. I thought Burns was a bit of a long shot to make the big club but I'll be glad to be wrong.

I have enjoyed watching Burns play junior, now I want to see him be mean in the AHL. mid 3d round pick in a draft where the mid second round had first round talent.

Posted this earlier on another thread -- and he accomplished this all on a really not so good Frontenac team.

Re: D Quinton Burns Ready To Take Next Step
He’s not one of our top prospects but he has NHL potential. He’s one of many in a group that has a good shot of being a secondary/support sort of player. What I like most about him is he’s mean and physical. Somewhat similar to a Joel Edmundson style of player. I could see him developing into a 3rd pairing caliber lefty in a few years. Maybe more but we’ll see. Will be interested to see how he transitions to the AHL this season.rangergiff wrote: ↑17 Jul 2025 10:06 am Thanks for posting. Great to have these puck moving, offensive driving, positional players.
But just as great to have some tree trunks that can skate and grind some dudes. Him and Ralph. Looking forward to see if they can make it. We need both.

You're welcome and glad to do it. And yes quite a few Bluesers say thanks, but it's not neccessary.
Like most of us, I'm excited about the future of this core I'm counting the days until camp starts. Looking up a few articles to pass the time and generate some Blues talk is great, plus we can all gain a little insight from the real puckheads who've watched them in college, juniors and the minor leagues.
And one of my good friends is buying company season tickets this year, so I'll be going to more than the usual 2-3 a year.

Re: D Quinton Burns Ready To Take Next Step
From what I've read about Burns as well as from what I recall was being described about Vince Dunn before he was called up to the NHL, it sounds like there could be some similarities between the two?

Re: D Quinton Burns Ready To Take Next Step
Not really.
Dunn was always an undersized, offense oriented Dman with some spunk.
Burns is a big, pure stay at home type that will brutalize players who park in the wrong spot. There’s practically no offense in his game.

Re: D Quinton Burns Ready To Take Next Step
Not at all.
Dunn was more an offensive d-man and a little undersized but feisty. Burns is bigger, meaner but doesn’t have the same offensive talents. And he’s a fine skater but not the plus skater Dunn is. Think more Joel Edmundson if he pans out.

Re: D Quinton Burns Ready To Take Next Step
It would be difficult to come up with two more opposite players - Dunn to this day is someone you can't have on a real contender because his D is as suspect as ever. Burns is the kind of guy who will be a +3 in a 9-5 loss. Burns' calling card will be shutdown D if he makes it, with a hint of offense. I have used Tucker plenty of times and it's a good starting point to expectations on this player, though Burns seems like more of a sure shot with offensive ceiling. Not a flashy player but someone you need on the roster.
