this sentence from a Redbird Rants article caught my eye.
anyone know what the connection is?
here it is:
But with Doyle having a connection to Cardinals legend Chris Carpenter, this will help shape his development going forward.
Doyle/Carpenter

Re: Doyle/Carpenter
I guess he was close to where Carp had his home in NH. May have been influenced by that proximity and contact with Doyle.

Re: Doyle/Carpenter
From what I heard in an interview with Doyle, he is from the northeast and the same general area as Carpenter. He played baseball with one of Carps kids. They kind of got to know each other then. No huge connection but a passing one through kids and parents.

Flores said of Doyle, who said fellow New Hampshire native and Cardinals Hall of Famer Chris Carpenter was once his summer ball coach while growing up.

Re: Doyle/Carpenter
oh...what I'd give for Doyle to have a Carpenter-type career !
Re: Doyle/Carpenter
Comparisons are used often in baseball. . The 'experts' like to find 'comparables' to other players...
For Doyle, I just want him to pave his own path. Not be compared to anyone . We had the 'Mad Hungarian' tag for Al Hrabosky.
Doyle currently was tagged with the ' Tennesssee Madman ' Since he only played at Tenn. and isn't a native son there , how about going forward
The Missouri Madman ... I know the letters are MM and we had that for Mike Matheney but Missouri Madman could be one.
Let me think about a few others: What about these ?
Lunatic Liam ?
Crazy Bird ? (Fredbird's weird cousin )
Any others ?

Re: Doyle/Carpenter
When I watch videos of Doyle, he reminds me of Roger Clemens throwing Mike Piazza's broken bat back at him. How about "Lefty Clemens" Doyle?ramfandan wrote: ↑15 Jul 2025 19:43 pm Comparisons are used often in baseball. . The 'experts' like to find 'comparables' to other players...
