So many misses for Eli and MU
well after there June blitz of events staff had a bunch of great kids targeted and this is when MU usually gets a bunch of commitments but not this year. Instead priority kid after kid had their announcements and only a handful chose MU, while most went elsewhere and to places not exactly big brands. Usually would have myself and many worried that this is the end of the world but strangely quiet on the discussion boards.
of course it's a new world in CFB. We got all geeked up with the highly successful recruiting wins last couple years to only see the Biggest wins leave the program after a year or two. Or some of the biggest wins not do much at all if they did stay. Plus Eli and staff did a masterclass in recruiting outstanding players with experience in the TP to be starters and prime contributors and they had two great years in a row on the field.
So we have to adjust to this brave new world of the NIL era and glad we have a adaptable HC who knows how to smooze legislators, the BOC and big donors to elevate the program and the school. May not be the best strategist or having the game plan ready to upset the big brands but for a middling program like MU he has his team very competitive.
Also look at Ole miss who is on similar trajectory with indifferent HS recruiting results so far but have been very competitive on the field and very successful in TP.

So many differences for Eli and MU
The original subject title makes you scratch your head and wonder if the OP can or will be able to adjust.of course it's a new world in CFB.
So we have to adjust to this brave new world of the NIL era and glad we have a adaptable HC
Or it's hypocritical in a desperate grab for attention.
Eli has proven he can bring these players back to Missouri. These players are missing on the opportunity to be part of an SEC program from the beginning.
Look at Jamal Roberts. He's well ahead of most players his age at his position. Connor Tomlinson will enter the draft as a three-year, SEC starter.
Re: So many misses for Eli and MU
No question we have missed on some players we really wanted. I believe we are spending money on retention of the players contributing to wins on the field, and not throwing big money at the higher-ranked recruits. We got burned with 3 of our top rated stars last year, and it appears we are moving the biggest chunk of our NIL chest towards the portal and keeping what we have.
I'm not making excuses for these misses- they hurt. I think this is the reality we face with all these changes in player compensation, and with everyone else catching up with us on the NIL front. Win on the field, and win the portal. Drink appears all-in on that methodology. We will see if we can sustain a program that way.

Another example of a confused mind saying NO, while taking the negative approach of "we will see."Win on the field, and win the portal. Drink appears all-in on that methodology. We will see if we can sustain a program that way.
Drink isn't all in on just one thing, whether it's recruiting, coaching, game planning, schmoozing, politics, etc
He is adjusting to what the moment brings, and those differences are what the confused minds can't see happening before them.
Re: So many misses for Eli and MU
With the transfer portal, HS recruiting has lost some, if not a lot, of its importance. How many incoming freshmen actually are difference makers their first year? The portal and retention have become more important. Also, and I’ve been frequently flamed for this, I simply don’t get worked up over verbal commitments whether they’re made to Mizzou or other schools. Some of Mizzou’s greatest stars verbally committed to other schools before flipping to MU. Likewise, Mizzou has lost some verbal recruits. I don’t really care about them until they’re signed, qualified, enrolled, and on the practice field. Let’s see where the recruiting class stands in July 2026 instead of 13 months before the start of fall practice 2026.hdhntr148 wrote: ↑15 Jul 2025 08:49 am well after there June blitz of events staff had a bunch of great kids targeted and this is when MU usually gets a bunch of commitments but not this year. Re: So many misses for Eli and MU
There's only so much money to go around so being judicious and having a plan/philosophy and willing to commit to it is tantamount to fretting over missing some recruits.
The model is to win now..not recruit and rebuild and hope to win in three years as before.
It seems to me the current plan has worked pretty well and Drinkwitz seems to be tailor-made for this new landscape in college football.

Totally agree to these points and why we no longer live and die with some HS recruits decision. IMO Eli is pursuing the correct path in bringing in guys already at programs and have proven they can getrdone and have skills that fit their program.
Saw podcast yesterday that focuses on SEC FB and they were comparing Eli with Lane Kiffin and ole miss program. Both have been very successful at mining the Portal and their HS recruiting has taken back seat and their own field records are about the same. Both beat B1G programs in two successive bowl games while rest of SEC didn't do very well there.
Both have rebuilt their respective programs to be respectable again while still questions remain about their game plans against the big brands and decisions which IMO is fair till they are competitive against top teams and beat them.
What is nice about current CFB landscape is there is more to acquiring talent that HS recruiting where both programs couldn't be as competitive as the big brands.
