Anyone have a height concern when it comes to Liam Doyle?

Post by Bully4you »

I note that all of the top LH pitchers
are at least 6'4" in height.
Doyle checks in at 6'2".
Not sure that is a major issue or
not?
His release toward home plate
might be affected.
Seems like most great pitchers are taller.
Just curios what you all think.

In my very narrow, uneducated view of the baseball world. I am of the opinion no player should be selected below 5'11" as a position player unless they have exhibited Jose Altuve like ability to hit the ball. They are rare and far between. When it comes to pitchers they should be a minimum of 6'2". Not all pitchers need to have great size and stature but the ones that last the longest with the better results over a period of time tend to be large guys. Pitchers arms take a great deal of stress and they need a well developed lower body to endure. Guys that are selected at 5'8" to 6' as a pitcher rarely have staying power and get dragged down by injuries. I have no issue with Doyle being 6' 2" as long as he is taught to develop secondary pitches and does not fall in love with just his fastball. I believe every young pitcher should be taught to be a Greg Maddux type pitcher. Paint the edges with pinpoint accuracy while changing speeds. I think he will be fine when all is said and done, but I will never gripe with a starting staff of big guys. I was happy to see in this draft they went for tall guys across the board. It was something I was watching for.

Quincy, if my memory from CT serves, you were a pitcher, right? To what level? I enjoy reading your posts and respect your opinions.

Yep. One of the greatest ever.
So, maybe there isn't any ideal height.

Yeah, there are a few with great success
even below 6'0".
I was just asking as I was thinking about
some of the best of the best and they
are generally taller.

I was thinking the length would help
when delivering to the plate.
I know Randy Johnson shook things up
mightily with his 6'10" height.
He might just be the best ever.

Hey, thanks for the insight.
Makes a lot of sense.
Doyle has a lot going for him
and I was just wondering about
the height.
I thought of Kershaw, R. Johnson, Sale,
and a couple others and they were
quite tall.

Yes, that was so stupid.
I guess the scouting would have
never discussed that factor.
And everything you post is just
right on point.
You're perfect my man.
