My #1 prospect target - Spencer Jones

Post by Carp4Cy »

6-7" 240 lbs OF. 23 HRs and 1.038 OPS in AA/AAA in 63 games this year. But he's more/less blocked by Judge. What would the Yankees take to move him?

He's LH unfortunately. We are going to need to find a RH who is already in the majors, or FA. But there should be enough dry powder for that priority.

32.6% K rate this year, which is an improvement over last years 36.8%. He's Gorman's step brother? There is a lot to like, the power, the speed (43 SB in 2023), willing to take a walk, has played mostly CF.

Yankees #2 prospect. Plays good centerfield defense. Yankees won’t trade him for a rental. They have long coveted Donovan so that is who they would want. They have some decent pitching prospects that could be added

I kind of thought he was a good idea over the winter, but upon further review the strikeouts bother me. Actually, so far this season at AA and AAA he has struck out 90 times in 233 AB for a 38.6% strikeout rate. The power is enticing. He seems like a Gorman for the OF with more service time.

I’ve been hesitant on him due to the strikeouts. Obviously the power and OBP and speed combo are nice though. He’s a big guy, too. Imagine an OF with him and Walker in it. 8O 8O 8O

Isn't the K rate based on PA, not AB's?

Would you add VS2 and Gorman if that's what it took?
I'm still optimistic that VS2 improves with the bat, and Gorman's power potential would be hard to swallow if he takes off elsewhere.

Yes it is, that's why my number was 32.6%

Yanks need pitching NOW, this won't get it done but I'd start with Fedde, Noot, Helsley. I'd up it to Pallante, Noot, Helsley and some wildcard minor leaguer.

IF Gorman was an elite defender at 2B, he'd have good value even with his K issue.
If Jones is an elite CF, which Idk, then potentially so would he.

You're probably much closer to what the Yanks would want. I'm higher on Noot than most on here, and if I'm the Yanks, I'd rather Judge play a less demanding LF vs. CF, thus the VS2 thought.
