This year they finally are letting DH. 45 games at DH. 22 in OF. I don't understand why they wouldn't have done this years ago given his injuries since 2020. Keep the bat in the lineup.

Trout has also been very forward about wanting to play CF.

Some major leaguers still want to play baseball, not just one facet of the game. Even Raffi Devers wanted to play until the Red Sox took 3B away from him.Quincy Varnish wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 14:54 pmThey had some guy called Ohtani as DH.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 14:49 pm https://www.baseball-reference.com/regi ... out-001mik

Like Pujols, I thought they may compete for all-time numbers. I home Trout can be like Albert and still play for another 7 years.
Trout had the 180-type wRC+ until he was 30 years old. Downhill since then with 3 years of 140, 135 and 125.
Pujols dipped to 147 wRC+ at age 31 and never came back.

I understand that but the owner signs the checks. Regarding Ohtani play one of them at first base.Fred Rutherford wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 15:37 pmSome major leaguers still want to play baseball, not just one facet of the game. Re: Mike Trout
It's almost a crime that great players like Trout and Don Mattingly only had a cup of coffee in the high profile playoffs where Baseball Nation could see them where they both belong: In the spotlight.
Actually, it IS criminal that Steve Trout appeared in more postseason series than Mike Trout.

What an albatross that contract has and will continue to be for the next 5 years. I suppose his name recognition will always offer something in Anaheim but man, he appeared to be the first "sure thing" mega-contract ever signed and sure enough, injuries and age get even the best.
