A fastball that does not move, no matter the mph, is very hittable. Unless he develops another pitch his days of closer are done.

Re: Helsley
Welp, gonna be a lot less than they could have got for him in the offseason, along with Fedde and Noot
Re: Helsley
Many wanted to trade him last winter when he had some real value…
But the allure of that third wild card was too much to overcome…

Re: Helsley
Among many, a huge failure to not trade him this past offseason. Gonna get 2nd rate prospects for him now. Mo in inconceivably bad as a GM.
Re: Helsley
He never trades high. He watches value slip away. That's his specialty. What exactly are they going to get for Helsley now if they even try to trade him?
It wouldn't surprise me now if they just held on to him and got nothing in return as he walks away into free agency. There is no way they're going to give him a qualifying offer when it could cost them $20 million next year if he accepts it. Bloom will be in charge after season's end, so I hope some competence returns. We shall see.

Re: Helsley
He gives up WAY too many 0-2 hits and the 0-2 contact play to the right side with one out, today manufactured a run for the Braves. The crowd sounded 1/2 full of Braves fans on the radio. Then, we go down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth? Totally unacceptable. The great VS2 leading off? 1 pitch, one out. That's not the Cardinal Baseball I knew. But he plays with a swagger and flare, so the younger fans like him. Donovan? He's good, but he made out #2 on a K? I don't remember, but probably. Then, Masyn Winn. He was good in Peoria. Came up last year and played pretty well. He's been 0 for 5 the last 2 days. But he has swagger and flare so I guess it's okay. The Cardinals do NOT play the Cardinal Way. And everybody on this site knows it. Totally unacceptable to me. Should be totally unacceptable to the manager and coaches, the players themselves, the front office, the Cardinal faithful, ownership- and God in heaven above.
Getting back to Helsley, whomever mentioned it is correct, he doesn't have great movement on his fastball, this year. Not sure, haven't seen the games with great HD picture. But I DO think he can get back in form. A great catcher, like Molina could have gotten him through some of these choppy waters. at least that's the way I see it. Greg Maddox never had exactly over powering stuff. But he induced weak contact and even got strike outs with finger pressure and movement of the ball. He's a HOF'er, you know.
Hope y'all made it to the end of this dissertation. Thanks for your time this time, till next time, so long.

+1 I said it all off season he and fedde needed to be traded. A year of control helsley with an outstanding season he would not be able to replicate this season. He’s already blown six saves after blowing just 4 last season. Awful move to keep him. Even his last two saves he was hit hard just got lucky they were at people. He isn’t fooling or blowing away batters anymore

Re: Helsley
If nobody was offering anything of value at last years deadline or in the off season what makes you think we can get anything for him now?

Everything Mo touches turns to (bleep). Let Bloom handle the trades even if it means waiting to the off season.

Re: Helsley
Mo wasn’t going to trade him last deadline because cards were still in the wild card hunt. Mo wasn’t trying to trade him in the offseason because he wanted to compete for a wild card his last season and because his 1,2,3 priorities as he said said was to trade arenado. Mo also said in the offseason he was planning to hold onto him and Ken Rosenthal said teams in contact with the cardinals said they were keeping him so of course you aren’t going to get anything for a player you aren’t trying to trade. So mo does what mo does wait until players value cratersvegascardsfan5890 wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 18:57 pm If nobody was offering anything of value at last years deadline or in the off season what makes you think we can get anything for him now?

That would be malpractice to get 'nothing' for Helsley and let him walk into free agency.icon wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 16:39 pmHe never trades high. He watches value slip away. That's his specialty. What exactly are they going to get for Helsley now if they even try to trade him?

Re: Helsley
They could get a decent return at the deadline. Teams will be interested in adding someone with closer experience. Yankees might have interest. Phillies too.
But Mo cannot be in charge of any deal(s) at the deadline. It makes no sense for Mo to be conducting any deals or taking calls. Any move impacts Bloom. So Bloom should be in charge. Not some smug putz that is incompetent.
