What do the Cardinals have in Nathan Church?

Post by ggnoobs »

Haven't heard much about him, but he's raking at AAA. Seems like he deserves a shot at the major league level. He couldn't be worse than Nootbaar at this point.

Are any baseball people taking him seriously? Seems like he could be another Carp / Donovan type who comes out of nowhere and ends up being a good major league hitter.

Wish he was a right handed batter. He is a fine fielder and has a gun for an arm. Runs well too.

He does have almost 1300 MiLB ABs and his OPS is over one. I’m game to give him an August call up.

Yeah, he'd be a great option as a strong side platoon. He's having a breakout season and could be a real weapon against RHP.

He’s another prospect that at some point would struggle and people would say he sucks

People say the Cards’ prospects suck because they are overhyped and they usually do suck. Over the past decade the outfield has been a guffaw a minute. A regular joke.

Church playing Mon. thru Sat. has been quite good . The problem seems his stats in lineup on Sundays ... going to Church on Sunday , you better pray he plays better than the other six days of the week !

I do not disagree with that statement

At AAA, it's not that we know they are ready for the majors, it's that they are ready to try. At some point it's time to find out. Is there something more he needs to do, or show, before that time comes?
