Anonymous player upset with how Blues handled Nick Leddy situation

Post by TBone »

If it was a Blues player who are we thinking?

I'd think it would be someone with a similar contract: no trade, but not no movement, toward the end of his deal.

However, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, one player was unhappy with how the Blues handled the situation.

"I got a call from a player who was upset at the Leddy situation," Friedman shared on this week's 32 Thoughts episode. "Doug Armstrong wanted to lighten the load on his defense, he wanted to move some pieces around, and Leddy was able, by his contract, to block a trade to San Jose. But he did not have a no-move clause anymore, so they could put him on waivers, and San Jose claimed him."

"There was a player who called me about it, and he was upset about that," Friedman continued. "This particular player was kind of bothered that that end-around still existed."

While this anonymous player is upset, Leddy is going with the flow.

I can understand the frustration. But if a player can block a trade then a GM can also exercise his ability to place said player on waviers. Army didnt break the CBA but followed what he could do to a T. Lets be honest Leddy hasn't lived up to his contract. I dont think Doug did anything wrong.

Is anyone surprised that Army is a shrewd shafter?

He throws kisses to the outbound train with the best of them, but if you look closely there is always a knife involved. And just ask Bolduc about infamous "short leash".

That said, my hope is that GMs stop handing out these deals. After Kyrou's NTC, I'd be happy to never hear it again. Players should go where they get to play. How many players have the Blues as their no-trade destination because we are the new murder capital? It's insulting to any city and team and fans everywhere.

give it a rest. Army made the team better by letting leddy walk. He wasnt worth the 4mil.

Are you going to cry about berglund being added to the orielly trade that brought the blues (not you cause i dont think you are a blues fan) a cup. He didnt turn in is no trade list on time and he was included in the trade

Are you going to cry about the offer sheets for holloway and broberg.

Are you going to cry about getting fowler for a 3rd

Are you going to cry about trading sammy blais and a 2nd for buchy

this is a business first, doug has a responsibility to the team not the individual. So for the love of god just shut the front door smellyasss

This is just someone looking for clicks in July. No need for people to wildly speculate on the player they personally dislike as being a source.

It isn't usual that the team someone rejected is also the team that claims them off waivers, but obviously it happens. They all agreed to the CBA. Leddy seems to be taking it well and understanding that for whatever reason he was going to San Jose. I hope he likes it there and maybe even runs his career out with a new contract in California. He seems like a good guy who would be a great mentor on a young team.

Army to the team:
It's business first around here, guys, and I got into the business first. You're last. You get the short leash, the shaft, and the blame.

So just when the "team culture" was up-ticking in the locker room, Army takes a pee on one of the lockers.

Its a business and a move to improve the team.

Leddy gets it.

He doesn't care who writes the check.

Give it a rest, Smelly. No team has jerked around players more than Vegas and that sure hasn’t kept players from wanting to go play there.

We all know exactly who the player is.
1.) If you think this anonymous player is breaking morale and not being a team player - it's obviously Kyrou.
2.) If you're a fan of Armstrong and think this player is going against him - must be Kyrou.
3.) If you're Leddy's #1 fan and think this player is spot on - it's anyone but Kyrou.

Can we please turn this into a Kyrou thread? I heard a rumor that he might be traded to Vegas.

One player stepped forward, but how many are p____d? I feel the need to let BluesTalkers know that the players have spoken. You might want to listen because it may impact "team culture". Maybe the players don't love Army as much as you do? Think about that.

I am not a fan of supposed journalists citing "anonymous sources", there is too often no way to verify what is published and it requires a leap if faith regarding integrity, veracity, and context. I'm not saying it's not true, I am saying it is a cowardly way of conducting business like this (Friedman makes money off this stuff) or getting a message out (player should man up, not poison the well so to speak). This is not a life and death situation, in this case I wouldn't make much out of it.

Don't kill the messenger. I'm just making sure that BluesTalkers don't lose sight of the fact that this is the players talking. Leddy is gone, and he may not even care that much. But there are a lot of guys in the locker room that are now asking their agents to read all the fine print in their contracts. Just relying on what Army tells you is not the whole story.

100%! This is all a big nothing burger. Except to those with an unhealthy hate for our GM. Otherwise, nothing to see here, lets move on.
