JJ Wetherholt off to hot start in Memphis
While 3 games is a small sample size, JJ has come out hot ... He is 4 for 11 with 1 double, 1 triple, and 1 home run .
His batting avg. is .364 with a 1.326 OPS
Pretty much a foregone conclusion Wetherholt will be brought up in September to get his 'cup of coffee' in The Show. Would be a bonus for him if the Cardinals would still have a shot at one of the playoff spots. Get a taste of what it is like to be in the hunt even if for a possible wildcard spot.

Dude is legit.
I remember the hype for Gregg Jeffries in 1987.
This should be happening with this guy too.
He'(poop) a ton everywhere he's been.
Plug and play man.
Just do it.

Re: JJ Wetherholt off to hot start in Memphis
I recall all the hype for the Mets' prospect Gregg Jefferies, and he was an excellent player - switch hitter, good speed, contact hitter who rarely struck out. He came up young and never really played up to the hype in New York, and they traded him to KC where he only played one season. The Royals traded him to the Cardinals in a deal for Felix Jose', where he played two seasons. He had his finest season in '93 for the Cardinals, where he hit 16 HR, 83 RBI - both career highs. He also stole 46 bases, more than double the amount he usually stole. His slash line was .342/.408/.485/.894. That .342 avg. was good for 3rd in the NL. He was moved to 1B for the Cardinals and played there very well, much better than his 2B performance earlier in his career. He had another good year for the Cardinals in '94, but became a FA after that season and signed a 4 year deal with the Phillies. He never posted the same kind of stats again, and was finished at age 32, playing with the Angels and Tigers to end his career.Bully4you wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 04:48 amHe's the best chance the Cards have for a "Face of Baseball"ramfandan wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 03:54 am While 3 games is a small sample size, JJ has come out hot ... JJ Wetherholt has much more power potential than Jefferies, and a better fielder also. I hope that JJ can achieve even more impressive stats in St. Louis, and have a much longer career than Jefferies.

Don't jinx the kid. Jordan Walker was the cover boy of some baseball publications, and so far, he's a bust.Bully4you wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 04:48 amHe's the best chance the Cards have for a "Face of Baseball"ramfandan wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 03:54 am While 3 games is a small sample size, JJ has come out hot ... I don't think they will bring him up. But I thought he should have started on the team to begin the year. Cards are playing it too soft with himramfandan wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 03:54 am While 3 games is a small sample size, JJ has come out hot ... He is 4 for 11 with 1 double, 1 triple, and 1 home run .

Watch JJ hit and then watch Walker hit……Walker had a122 OPS+ at AA and an uninspiring 98-100 at AAA. Why was he promoted?? Nothing specialBrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 07:32 amDon't jinx the kid. How dare you? I'm still basing my retirement off of my Gregg Jeffries rookie cards12xu wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 07:32 amI recall all the hype for the Mets' prospect Gregg Jefferies, and he was an excellent player - switch hitter, good speed, contact hitter who rarely struck out. I thought Walker was overrated from the get-go.
Saw him in ST with Winn and I knew Winn would be better.

The mid to late 1980's.
Of course, that was when I was very early
teens and baseball was still very popular.
I remember SI cover with Jefferies story and
he was swing a bat in the pool.
I think that is correct.
He did it for bat speed I guess.
Re: JJ Wetherholt off to hot start in Memphis
Wetherholt's pitch recognition is far superior. Watch him bat - he holds up on bad pitches and hammers the good ones with a short but very fast swing.
He has a .419 OBP in the minors. He had a .467 OBP in college. He had a .477 OBP in other leagues. And watch him - he doesn't get cheated on his swings.

Agreed. I’m excited to see him in St. Louis. Give him July and August in Memphis, call him up in September IMO.ClassicO wrote: ↑11 Jul 2025 09:49 am Wetherholt's pitch recognition is far superior. Watch him bat - he holds up on bad pitches and hammers the good ones with a short but very fast swing.
