Orioles just traded with the Rays for their competitive balance pick at #37. CB picks are the only ones that can be traded.

The Cardinals should be doing this. Stop pretending on being a contender this year.

I was thinking the same thing. Then I realized they probably don't want to pay the extra money for signing bonus at those picks.

Brian Baker has 3 years of Arb left.

Our equivalent in this trade would possibly be Kyle Leahy? Does anyone think we could get a Comp Pick for Kyle Leahy?

No?

JoJo Romero has 1 year of Arb left...Would his 1 year of Arb yield the same return? No?

Then how did the Orioles get so much in return for this guy? I think this is a huge overpay by the Rays. A first round pick for a guy that's not even a closer. I mean this guy is a decent pitcher, but to give up a comp pick seems outrageous to me.

3 years of control on a pretty good reliever. And the Rays will likely move him before the 3 years are up. Do we possess any reliever with the same type of control? I don't think so.

I'm not disagreeing with you Cravy. I respect your opinion, but don't you think the #37 pick for a team like Tampa Bay that is always worried about payroll an overpay for Baker?

I agree on the overpay, but the Phills are reportedly looking for relievers with years of control, too, so there's a competitive market for them. So, that's probably a driving factor in the overpay. Can that be a good thing for our two relievers with expiring control in Helsley and Maton? Maybe. Can't hurt the chances of moving Romero with 1 year of control left. Active markets are great.

Maybe our offer would be Romero plus a bat with control (Noot?) for a comp pick. Pozo might also look appealing. Get Crooks up here for a 2 month look.

All of that said, unless Bloom is involved, none of that would happen. Mozeliak doesn’t have the desire/gumption to put something like that together.
