Army's handling of the Defense Roster
Good read on Army's handling of the Defense Roster
https://thehockeywriters.com/blues-arms ... blue-line/
While I agree that Army improved things, I still have a beef.
Consider how Army achieved these improvements.
1. Offer sheets
2. Trade of a proven future star, Bolduc
Would anyone in hockey really applaud this approach to improvement?
Don't you want to improve your team through the draft?
Don't you want your team to hold on to draft success stories?
In Army's case, he stole draftees from another team, and gave away one of his brightest stars in one of the riskiest trades in franchise history.
Let's contrast that with Montreal...
They are stacked with homegrown talent.
They traded away one of their weaker RHDs for St Louis's best winger. it was a cherry pick.
Sustained roster health is not possible using Army's tactics.
A. How often will offer sheets work?
B. How many homegrown stars do you want to give away?
I'd much rather follow Montreal's roster build approach than Armys.

Good for you. That’s why Army is GM and you’re nota smell of green grass wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 08:38 amMeant to say "best, most proven, prospect winger".
I know that this is debateable etc, but Bolduc clearly has what I consider the most important trait, willingness to fight and claw.
I would take Bolduc over Kyrou every day.

Get your (bleep) together. You're confused and put these comments in what I'm sure is your forthcoming soon post -- "Army's handling of the Forwards Roster."
You even pivot and change your OWN narrative. You don't need anyone else to prove you are an idiot.

Proven future star. Wow. This is getting boring.

Anybody else notice that people replying to my comments seldom attack my ideas.
They attack me only -- as though that is sufficient and welcome to the other BluesTalkers.
Common sense is really hard to beat along the boards.

The Blues did not steal Broberg or Holloway any more than Carolina stole Ehlers.
Montreal has been rebuilding for nearly a decade. It would stand to figure they have more homegrown talent than a team that won the Cup 6 years ago. The question would be why does Montreal keep finishing behind the Blues despite having a 5 year head start in their rebuild?
Montreal just traded two 1st rd picks and two prospects within the last 2 weeks. In other words they did things you say they don’t do.
The Bolduc trade is probably nowhere close to being the riskiest in franchise history. Doug Gilmour, Brendan Shanahan, Adam Oates, Chris Pronger, Joe Mullen, Rod Brind’Amour, Curtis Joseph and Ben Bishop were all traded by the Blues.
There is nothing I have seen from Montreal to make me think they are doing anything better than the Blues and Armstrong.

Sounds like somebody's a Habs fan.
Re: Army's handling of the Defense Roster
This argument lacks critical thought.
Using an offer sheet or trading draft picks themselves can be thought of accelerating the future. Instead of drafting someone of Broberg's potential, he trades that pick before it's used for that player (offer sheet is functionally a trade).
I, and most people, firmly believe in drafting the best player available. This means you have to trade players like Bolduc for prospects like Mailloux.

Snuggy looked better than him in the playoffs. Just saying. Snuggy and DVO with stenberg and stancl coming soon made him expendable.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 08:38 amMeant to say "best, most proven, prospect winger".

the energy it must take to keep this [shirt] going literally day after day.
i'm so thankful i have many, many interests outside of professional sports. which, when it comes down to it, has zero affect on my life and overall happiness. i can't imagine making an effort to do this over and over and over.

Re: Army's handling of the Defense Roster
Bolduc credited with 19 Hits in 7 games vs Jets series, is this "willingness to fight and claw"? Neighbours had 33 Hits and 6 pts so wouldnt Neighbours have " the most important trait"????netboy65 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 08:48 amGood for you.
