Army Deserves Lots of Credit

Post by Ventomiglia »

Gentlemen,

I hope everyone is enjoying your summer in the Lou.

We are lucky to have such passionate fans here in St. Louis to support the note and DA is the best GM I have seen(loved Ron Caron-Meat on the burner, but he did not bring us a cup). DA knows what a team needs to win and actually makes moves unlike other franchises that sit back. The goal is to make the playoffs every year(Not pick top 5-10 in the draft) and make a run to get the cup. The cup is the hardest prize to win in all of sports. I have been a blues fan since the early 70's and we have had some of the worst teams, mediocre teams and presidential cup teams. The Blues making the playoffs was a given the last 20 plus years and in 2019 took the ultimate goal the Stanley Cup. Some cities/fans will go their whole life without a cup. You don't win with top picks, winning on good talent is half the battle, you need 3 plus lines clicking in the playoffs and you need at least 3-4 D showing up and shutting down the other teams top players and most of all a hot goaltender. So, getting into the playoffs is always the goal in my mind. We are all passionate Blues fan and have a cup

This is all well and good, but it doesn't really mean anything unless you make other posts almost daily about basically the same thing but trying to disguise it as "talking hockey". Also, don't forget to bash Army when you comment on other people's posts, even if what he's done is clearly a good thing.

Btw, I agree with your sentiments.

Sorry, I saw a date in August of 2024 as the date you joined, so didn't realize you were new. It shouldn't take you long to figure out the "Army is always wrong, always, no matter what" crowd from those who actually want to talk Blues hockey.

Krug is the only bad contract I think Army has done.
I hated it from day.
All the others I'm ok with.
Army done an excellent job really.
Petro decided to leave...it was his choice.

Everything you said is dead on. Army is a top 5 GM currently in the league. He is arguably top 10 GM in Hockey history depending on what metrics you want to go by. He will most likely be 9th when it's all said and done (which is where he is now) unless a miracle happens and the blues get to 58 wins (not going to happen).

He has brought the city it's only cup and is one of the most transparent GM's in sports. He will answer nearly every question even if that answer is "that's something we would like to keep in house." Most GM's will find a way to double talk questions so they never show their hands.

Army will probably get some sort of dedicated retired honor with the Blues, especially since he will be spending more time in the org like a lot of Blues legends do. It's hard to build up the kind of equity he did with the city but it's crazy to see how well him and Stillman and Co have been great stewards of the Blues.

Another one. We at two a week. For the guy who built a bubble team. I'm guessing you'll know winning. Or at least how to fandom a strongman.

Army does the very same thing he has done every single year. Including the annual bad trade.
A Over twenty five yr old hope, and a 34yr old Vet who can be another defender. What a genius or maybe one big beautiful fan base gullible enough to think 1 and what15 is some type of winning.

For those who incessantly whine about the job performance of Doug Armstrong, I reply with only two words:
