Do You- Pitch Gray before or after the rain.

Post by sikeston bulldog2 »

Good morning.

Rain around this pm. Leads to a scenario.

Given.

Game time 6:45
Line of storms to hit around 7:30 ish
Rain delay 1 hour plus/
Your the manager

Do you as manager:

Start Gray, get 2-3 innings and end with pen, or,
Start pen for 2-3 and finish with Gray after the delay.

This is just a Scenerio/ I got no clue as to when or if it rains.

Takers.

I’m not basing on tonight. I agree it’s mid level chances. I am curious if it happened, would you as a manager, manipulate the start.

Another thought. If it was a Mik or Fedde start, same scenerio, I’d just start them and get 2-3 and pen it. With Gray, I think I’d start Matz, after rain, bring in Gray.

A SMART Manager would use an OPENER if rain is forecast to hit soon after first pitch.

But that leaves Oli out of the discussion so we'll see Gray on the bump whenever first pitch comes.

KMOV say's rain from 1pm - 8pm possible but their radar appears to show it out of the DT area by 6:30 pm.

If that holds, then Gray starting won't be an issue.

Thanx. So if it was a rain delay, as we noted, if this were a Mik or Fedde start, would you go the other way- start them, get a couple innings, then go pen.

In other words does the starter matter in this scenerio.

IF I was running the show BDog Mikolas would be DFA'd and Fedde gone to whatever team wanted him for no return!

Was it under TLR there was a game at home and he did that, started a reliever, the game delayed after the first inning, and later brought in the starter, and the opponents went ape *&^^% crazy about it?

I saw Whitey do that in the 80's while the other Manager lost his starter in the 2nd inning when the rains came! :D

All future radars have a line, all though it could be scattered, coming thru, the timing is the difference. That’s why a forecast of rain from 1-8 there.

I believe it was against Dusty Baker and the Reds and Dusty complained about it

If those are my options I call up a Milb pitcher for a spot start, or use Matz.

Not blowing gray on a 2-3 inning start nor am I taking him out of his normal process.
