What deadline moves do you want to see?
Buy or Sell? What names? Let's hear it.
I would like to see if we could pry Joe Boyle out of Tamps Bay's hands. He would be a good near term and long term piece. Tampa really needs outfield help. Note sure we have anyone who would fit well for them.
Maybe they take a Nootbaar or a Jordan Walker?
My actual guess is that the Cardinals will trade away Fedde to open a spot for McGreevy. They will then acquire a middle reliever we have never heard of.
I would like another impact bat in the lineup and a good arm or two.

I said in the other thread:
Buyer
-They need to add a RP to the pen', not a big move but a necessary one
-If they could find a RHHing OFer who could actually hit, then you could get a bigger deal (J. Walker dangled?)
Seller
-I'd move mountains and see if some team would take Mikolas (even if BDWJr has to eat some salary) just for his innings eating ability so Oli can slot M. McGreevy into his slot
-I'd move Matz, he's on the downswing and that IL stint could be looming
-Fedde might bring back something of value, I'd move him if they can't find a sucker errrrrrrr GM to take Mikolas again to clear a runway for McGreevy
Of the above, the bullpen arm is the move I think they'll for sure make.

It would be easier to find a market for Mikolas than to get him to waive his no trade clause.rockondlouie wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 13:25 pm I said in the other thread:

Re: What deadline moves do you want to see?
As bad as Miles has been, I'm not sure it's a good idea to move him for nothing. I'd like to see them put McGreevy in the rotation and move Miles to mop up duty in the pen. That's a move that could improve the team and costs nothing.
McGreevy is our best depth currently. I guess one could consider Matz as insurance, but he's filled his new role nicely. I don't see how trading away any of our SP helps this club, unless they bring in a SP.

Abd if they did find a market for him and he refused to waive the NTC, then I'd tell him it's bullpen time or DFA.
He's been hurting the team since 2023 (4.99 ERA: 2023-Current) and he's NOT a legacy player.
No tears would be shed in Cardinals Nation if he were DFA'd.

Re: What deadline moves do you want to see?
I think they need to approach the deadline mainly as an opportunity to clear roster congestion, and just try to get whatever mix of best quality pitching they can get for either this year or the future. They need to be focused on 2026 and beyond rather than just improving the roster for this year. And I don't think they need to trade away pitching because injuries are still more likely to happen than not.
I'd be looking to trade Jimmy Crooks and Chase Davis at least, and one of Nootbaar/Gorman/Burleson/Walker if any team is willing to pay up. I don't have a firm idea of what they should target because it could be anything from a solid reliever who's under contract for a couple more years, to a MLB-ready SP whose under control for 3-4 years, to a really good pitching prospect.

Giving Mikolas a NTC just shows Mo's ineptitude at signing players. He's so bad that he has given inflated contracts to average to bad players. Cecil, Fowler, Leake, Miller, Holland, Gregerson, etc.rockondlouie wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 13:49 pmAgreedTalkin' Baseball wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 13:30 pmIt would be easier to find a market for Mikolas than to get him to waive his no trade clause.rockondlouie wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 13:25 pm I said in the other thread:

Re: What deadline moves do you want to see?
This is such a tough question.
On one hand I am never one to give up when in contention. And hey, lets face it they are on a 90 game winning season and playoffs who knows? So I can't see them selling this year unless they fall flat the next few weeks. As such I see them as "tepid buyers" not sacrificing anything seriously meaningful (we hope) to make the team viable in the playoffs.
As rock said a key need on offense is a RHH OFer. Preferably a rightfielder. Like what we all hoped Walker would be. If they are serious and can get a real bat for Walker do it. However if it's a rental for Walker it better be a star. Would also need BP help.
If they do flounder and decide to sell they MUST move Fedde, Helsley for prospects. And if there is a taker with a return Nado. Flood the farm with talent because you never know which ones pan out.
Heck if there is a return move Contreras too. Getting 1Bs who can hit is easy on the open market in the off season.
i confess I think this team is better than I expected and they will probably make some minor adds at the break to contend.

Re: What deadline moves do you want to see?
I feel like the closest player to a “star” talent that could get moved would be Oneil Cruz. Honestly he’s the kind of electrifying talent we could use. 15 HR and 27 SBs in 30 attempts and only 26 years old walking at a 13% clip. I don’t know where we’d play him though. And I doubt we’d trade with Pitt.AZ_Cardsfan wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 16:02 pm This is such a tough question.

Re: What deadline moves do you want to see?
Dump a few bloated contracts if possible, eat some money if necessary. Trade Helsley, Fedde, Nootbaar, for prospects or possibly a right handed hitting outfielder. I would still give Walker the rest of the year and all next year to prove himself. I believe Gorman is on the brink of gaining some confidence and giving the team a big power left handed bat.
I would also move Maton and Matz for the right prospect return. I trust Bloom to judge the talent they are offered in return for the goodies he offers.
I say this because they are still too far away from really contending, so building up the farm with prospects and leaving enough flex in the money situation to balance the roster. I think they can do just that.
If Crooks is in high demand I would trade him, they still have Bernal down on the farm.

RH DH or OF and quality starter. Both can be free agents at end of year.

Something to aquire a young power corner OF bat if it requires moving Areanado Gray and Helsley then fine. This team cannot get to the next level without one. Use Matz Fedde Mikolas and any other expiring contract for hard throwing RP hoping one can develop into a closerggnoobs wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 13:21 pm Buy or Sell? What names? Let's hear it.

Bring back Harrison Bader
Re: What deadline moves do you want to see?
We traded with Pittsburgh a few years ago when we traded Oviedo to them. Pittsburgh is going to want a lot for him. I am not sure he is the answer, he strikes out a ton, 108 so far this year and that BA of 210...and he bats LH. Super talent, I just don't think he helps now.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2025 16:08 pmI feel like the closest player to a “star” talent that could get moved would be Oneil Cruz. I suggested Rooker in another thread from the A's, RH hitter, with power, but not a good fielder. He makes more sense to me in terms of adding a RH bat. The problem is he makes the OF defense worse. But his team control for 4.5 years allows the Cards to trade him and get prospect value back in the future.
