Lars Nootbaar (TB)
The Cardinals should be open to trading Lars Nootbaar. This doesn’t HAVE to be done, but it should be explored. It would be okay to extend him, if that can be done. The two years of control left means he is not a rental and really helps his trade value.
In a trade proposal I made about Ryan Helsley, I suggested that he be packaged with Noot, Matz, and Jimmy Crooks to Philadelphia for Aidan Miller (Phillies #2/MLB #22), Justin Crawford (Phillies #3/MLB #53), and Mick Abel (Phillies #8). If you want more details on them you can check the thread on Ryan Helsely. The Phillies are desperate for a LF and a closer. They also need a backup catcher now and a replacement for Realmuto next year.
If this doesn’t pan out, the Cardinals should contact the Mariners (they should probably contact them anyway). The Mariners are desperate for any type of offense. They could use a RF. They also have the best farm system in baseball. They should be winning their division, but right now don’t even hold a wildcard spot because they can’t hit. Noot could bring a haul from them.
From Seattle, I would ask for 2 of their MLB top 100 prospects. Here are my targets; Lazaro Montes is a 20-year-old corner OF playing at A+ right now. Montes is a 6’5” 210 lb beast. He is the Mariners #2 prospect and the #33 prospect in MLB. He is a left-handed hitter with big power. He is a poor runner and defender. He has drawn comps to Yordan Alvarez. In his first 2 pro seasons he had OPS of .1007 and .1000. Last year he hit .288, OPS .884, 23 HR, and 105 RBI’s (116 games). So far this season, he has a .269 AVG, .935 OPS, 14 HR, and 42 RBI. He is ready to be promoted. Ryan Sloan is in his first professional season in A ball. He is the Mariners #9 prospect and the #92 overall prospect in MLB. Sloan is a 19 year old 6’5” 220 lb right-handed pitcher from Illinois. He has a mid-90’s fastball that can touch 100 along with a plus change-up and slider.
Along with their deep farm system, they have a Round A competitive balance pick this year, as well as drafting at #3 overall. They can afford this. Baseball Trade Values has these two valued approximately the same as Nootbaar.
Comment on the above, rank the below, or make your own suggestions.
1) Nootbaar, Helsley, Matz, and Crooks to the Phillies for Aidan Miller, Justin Crawford, and Mick Abel.
2) Nootbaar to the Mariners for Lazaro Montes and Ryan Sloan.
3) Nootbaar to the Royals for Noah Cameron and Vinnie Pasquantino (who could be flipped)
4) Nootbaar to the Rangers for Alejandro Rosario and Emiliano Teodo.
5) Nootbaar to the Blue Jays for Ricky Tiedemann plus ________

Re: Lars Nootbaar (TB)
It's not at all the last word on player valuation, but Baseball Trade Values says these are equitable trades. Even at that, Noot's trade value has been cut in half the past couple months.
Re: Lars Nootbaar (TB)
It would take at least Donovan to get near that package from the Mariners. Maybe Noot gets the comp pick and a non top 100 prospect but still high upside. Maybe Peete and Jeter Martinez added as high upside far away prospects if Cards add a reliever to the deal.

Re: Lars Nootbaar (TB)
Respectfully disagree. Nootbaar's trade value, even after his slump is at least 50% greater than their #2 prospect (Montes) and the gap gets wider as you go down the list. Even if the valuation isn't spot-on, it's not that far off.
Re: Lars Nootbaar (TB)
Mootbaar should have been traded 3 years ago as I alone first analyzed and advised.
STL has missed 3 very obvious opportunities since.
Let's hope they don't miss the 4th.
Easy.
Obvious.
Correct.

Re: Lars Nootbaar (TB)
Well, are there any of these options that you would analyze and advise?
Re: Lars Nootbaar (TB)
If the Mariners offered Montes and Sloan, two top 100 prospects for a guy hitting .229 and an ops+ under 100 then the Cards need to charter a flight right away for Noot. Lars doesn’t have the appeal he once had. He’s not going to get two top prospects especially ones that are highly valued by their organization as Montes and Sloan are. Montes is seen as a potential 30 homer guy for a team needing offense while the Mariners went way over slot to draft Sloan last year and are highly impressed by his progress this year.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 22:18 pmRespectfully disagree. Would the Cardinals be willing to trade Matthews and Bernal for an outfielder currently hitting.229 and has never lived up to his potential?

Is there another one of the suggestions offered that you think is more workable?kyace wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 23:07 pmIf the Mariners offered Montes and Sloan, two top 100 prospects for a guy hitting .229 and an ops+ under 100 then the Cards need to charter a flight right away for Noot. Re: Lars Nootbaar (TB)
Not how I remember it. You and you alone incorrectly analyzed Nootbaar as a “first ballot HOFer.”
You said he would be better than Pujols.
You said it was;
Easy.
Obvious.
Correct.
Remember it like it was yesterday. Own it please.
Re: Lars Nootbaar (TB)
Nootbaar was an 8th round pick with really pedestrian college numbers and was never a top 30 prospect in the organization. The mere fact that he’s been in the MLB for 4 years means he has far surpassed what his supposed potential is.kyace wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 23:07 pmIf the Mariners offered Montes and Sloan, two top 100 prospects for a guy hitting .229 and an ops+ under 100 then the Cards need to charter a flight right away for Noot. Re: Lars Nootbaar (TB)
Bloom will be in charge soon. Donovan could get the Seattle deal done most likely. That's the kind of move that makes the team better moving forward. Not a Mo-;move. We have 2 guys to potentially replace him ready to go. This is about being better than we are now. You have to trade quality to get quality. Noot is a guy that won't get quality prospects in return.

I enjoy your analysis. Can I ask where do you find BTV? I’ve looked but only see paid services that provide.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑22 Jun 2025 22:27 pmWell, are there any of these options that you would analyze and advise?
