It was a return to the playoffs for the St. Louis Blues after missing the playoffs two straight years. The Blues fell to the Winnipeg Jets in the first round in seven games.
Still, there is hope in St. Louis. They have just three pending free agents this offseason and will look to improve on their 2024-25 campaign. Here is a look at the nightmare scenario for the Blues in this 2025 NHL free-agency period.
The Blues made an amazing run to make the playoffs this season. Starting in mid-March, the Blues went on a 12-game winning streak to put them in the hunt for the playoffs. The Blues then defeated the Utah Hockey Club in their last game of the season to clinch a playoff spot. Still, the Blues need to make some moves to secure their future.
They have to first manage their salary cap. The Blues are projected to have between $9 million and $15.5 million in cap space, according to Cap Wages. They also have almost their entire core under contract this upcoming season. Still, there are a few different scenarios in which this offseason turns into a disaster in St. Louis.

It's a simple solution: Hire Tonya Harding as a consultant to work with Krug on his skating mobility.

Meh…….no chance Krug plays again. That ship has sailed. The surgery he had all but prevents him from playing.

Krug can’t just decide to play again. The Blues docs would have to clear him and that’s just not going to happen. An article based on needless anxiety.

The article is ridiculous. Krug is not going to play. And Schenn is not going to be traded. There is no nightmare.

Yea the Blues doctors would have to clear him and he would have to prove he is at NHL capable skating. Those are two massive jumps for him. If it happened, sure it would create problems. But they wouldn't be massive ones. It would jack up this current season but the next year would be a problem they could easily remedy. I don't see a world where this is an issue.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑16 Jun 2025 08:17 am Krug can’t just decide to play again. The Blues docs would have to clear him and that’s just not going to happen. The Blues will definitely be operating under what they think is happening. If they think its LTIR again, they will be players this offseason. If it's up against it, the wiggle room they have is somewhat small to fill out the roster.

Not worried...Krug is done. This is how Army will deal with it, if necessary

I think they did this for all teams. If you scroll down to the bottom you’ll see a “dream scenario” link.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑16 Jun 2025 08:17 am Krug can’t just decide to play again. The Blues docs would have to clear him and that’s just not going to happen. An article based on needless anxiety.
Just did the best and worst for everyone. Of course, reality is somewhere in the middle

Krug knew he was done before the surgery. That's why he was tearing up during the interview when he was discussing it a year ago.
