Wow. What a pathetic effort by Walker, Scott and Winn
That was one of the worst sequences of the season
Re: Wow. What a pathetic effort by Walker, Scott and Winn

Lineup way too top heavy. Three guys can't even put the freakin bat on the ball? Horrible.

To me, the game today was exactly why the Brewers have bettered the Cardinals the last few seasons. They just do the little things better. They play the game better. They make the plays they have to, they put the ball in play when they need to, they just don’t beat themselves.
The idea that the Cardinals would get the first two runners on in the ninth inning, get a wild pitch thrown in and still can’t bring at least the tying run in is a frustrating turn of events. Three straight hitters chased breaking pitches out of the strike zone, took fastballs right down the middle and couldn’t put one ball in play to bring in a run. Just a series of terrible ABs. Watching the game, each of those players looked overmatched, looked like the moment was just too big for them.
You watch the Brewers and the cast of characters in their batting order and they don’t seem like much but they do enough to win. Frelich, Turang, Durbin, Ortiz and now Avans. Not common names but they do enough to move the needle. They do enough and take advantage of their opportunities. They have a 21 year old kid who is a producer on this team.
Just frustrating to watch the game and then see our players completely fail like they did just makes you wonder. Are our players Nootbaar, Winn, Walker, Scott that much worse??

In two at bats I saw today, JW was guessing on strike 3. They had such a good two-strike approach when they were hot. Now many of them have abandoned it. With two strikes shorten up and guard the plate. Geez you learned that in Little League. At least Nado just kept fouling them off until he got a pitch he could handle. Pretty pathetic at bats

Part of it is coaching and managing. I think Brown has done a fine job, but they are straying from their successful approach. Marmol needs to instill the idea that the team is NOT going to K. They are going to have a strong two strike approach. There is a time to slug and a time to hit AND a time to guard the dish. The manager needs to stress this approach. I have been wanting Marmol gone since he blew the playoff series. It never happens. This team needs a much stronger manager. Yes, I know he wasn't swinging the bat, but managers do matter and we don't have a good one. Yes, they had a hot streak, but he is incapable of getting the most out of this limited roster. The Brewers are not that good. Rant over, but many of us are sick of Marmol and have been wanting him gone a long time.

Biggest difference i noticed was effort. Brewers hitters hustled down the line to beat a couple balls out and make a few other plays close. We have too many guys that jog down the line and are content to concede an out.

Don't kid yourself, management is OK with every loss. It gives them more reasons to be sellers in July and they are also hoping that Arenado and Gray will agree to trades. I can see Helsley, Matz and Maton all having value at the trade deadline.

Seeing those three straight Ks to end the game makes me appreciate Burleson as a hitter even more.

You can’t look breaking ball, you have to adjust breaking ball. Especially against a guy who throws 100.
Re: Wow. What a pathetic effort by Walker, Scott and Winn
I realize he’s struggled mightily, but why not save Noot to bat for Walker or Scott and use anyone else to pinch run. Nm, Marmols in charge and he doesn’t have an talent to use

He really didnt have anybody else to pitch run. Siani was sent back down i think. The question of whether to use Noot as a runner or hitter is a fair one but I had no problem with that decision since Noot is so lost right now. I would have batted Pozo for Scott despite the LR match up because there is just a better chance he will do something than Scott right now. Scott is all strike outs and grounders to first currently and looks terriblly over matched and not confident at all.
I had a good feeling about Walker and Winn in that inning. They are the primary disappointments in the inning, neither took a competitive at bat.
