https://redbirdrants.com/cardinals-mana ... aDXKOeVpzwIn the article, written by Dennis Lin, players around the league were polled on which manager, aside from their own, they would not want to play for. Marmol tied for first place, with 5 out of 40 players choosing the Cardinals' skipper.
Marmol was in decidedly poor company, as the other manager with five votes was the recently dismissed Bud Black, who was at the helm of the historically terrible Colorado Rockies before his firing after 40 games, when the Rockies were 7-33. More surprising was the presence of former Cardinals manager Mike Shildt, who currently manages the San Diego Padres and tied for second place with four votes.

I’m no Oli fan by any means, can’t wait for him to be let go by season’s end. However, is a sampling of 40 truly meaningful? How were the players chosen for the poll? Was it evenly dispersed throughout all teams? Heavily weighted in one league or division?

I mean I guess you can ask those questions. Problem is when you have a middling team and a middling City then you top it off with a manager that is at or near the top of the list that players don't want to play for, is there any way that could be beneficial for building a team or signing free agents?NorthernBird wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 07:46 am I’m no Oli fan by any means, can’t wait for him to be let go by season’s end. I believe you answered your own question.
Re: Congrats Oli. You're #1
750 players approximately in MLB and only 40 surveyed.
Of those just 5 .. 1 out of 8
Don’t put much stock.
My guess is the Tyler O’Neil public incident got him the votes.

I don't much care for Oli either, but does this small of a sample size really warrant an article. Apparently, RBR thought so. I think not.

Players outside of St. Louis know Oli is a pathetic excuse for a major league Manager and this PROVES it.
Opposing players know he's joke.
Please, please C. Bloom fire this guy the minute Mo hands you the keys to the POBO office!

Oli and Shildt representing Mo well on that list.

I think the answer to those questions will determine if the poll is meaningful enough to draw conclusions about whether Oli is viewed as the worst manager in MLB to play for by players.ForumPolice wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 07:48 amI mean I guess you can ask those questions. I'm still hoping he's gone by season's end.

Re: Congrats Oli. You're #1

Imagine if M. Matheny was still in KC.
Mo would've had the Top 3!

All there only because Mo wanted Puppets who would never push him like TLR did.
Let's hope C. Bloom fires Oli at seasons end and brings in a quality manager, something we haven't had since TLR retired.
Re: Congrats Oli. You're #1
I would suspect that one name to keep an eye on is Chad Tracy. He has been the Red Sox AAA manager for the last 4 years. He could be a guy they bring in at least for the MLB staff given Bloom’s connections to Boston.rockondlouie wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 11:29 am![]()

Another one is Rodney Linares. He’s been the bench coach for the Rays for the last few years (since 2022) and was a successful minor league manager in the Astros system before being hired by the Rays to be their 3rd base coach in 2018. He’s been learning from Kevin Cash.

Good calls, I'm doing my research on them immediately.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑13 Jun 2025 11:49 amI would suspect that one name to keep an eye on is Chad Tracy.
