"Well, it's a Wes Anderson movie, so you have to expect that it is very Wes Anderson-y. And his latest is extremely Wes Anderson. He really just Wes Andersons it up. I think it could be a little less Wes Anderson in some ways, but in other ways, I could have used even more of that unique flair he brings. (Wes Anderson, I mean.) Because, I just can't get enough Wes Anderson.
Bottom line: if you're the kind of person who enjoys Wes Anderson movies, this is a Wes Anderson movie. And if you don't particularly care for Wes Anderson, then, well, you might want to give this particular Wes Anderson film a try, because it might be the Wes Anderson movie that wins you over to Wes Anderson's Wes Anderson-ness."

Re: Every review of a Wes Anderson movie
My movie buff friend and I, both Wes Anderson fans, took in "The Phoenician Scheme" Sunday afternoon. Afterward, we looked at each other and asked "What the hell was that?".
To try and re-live the movie I looked up the excellent critic Frank Swietek, whose reviews appear as One Guy's Opinion on www.mrqe.com , and saw his B+ grade and report. In god's name, if you had handed me that review cold Sunday evening, I would not have recognized it as the movie I saw earlier that day. Virtually nothing about the movie stayed with me.
Now...I had a similar experience the first time I saw "Mulholland Drive", David Lynch's weird-fest murder mystery, having loved the first season (only) of his "Twin Peaks" series. The first time, in a theater, I walked out with the same reaction as Sunday. However, I stumbled onto Roger Ebert's review of the film; saw he was teaching a symposium on it; and decide to give it a second chance, again in a theater, without trying to make sense of it all....just enjoying the journey.
And I loved it. So much that I visited several of the film's locations later, including that apartment courtyard near Griffith Park where "Diane" was found dead. Hmmmm...was that Agent Dale Cooper's secretary Diane, to whom he described Douglas Firs, great coffee and cherry pie?
Maybe I just need to see "The Phoenician Scheme" again.

Lol this is definitely every movie of his since Grand Budapest (which I liked a lot but ended up being the last one I've seen or maybe will ever see). Asteroid City broke me. I might never see another WA movie.3dender wrote: ↑12 Jun 2025 07:15 amLol this is definitely every movie of his since Grand Budapest (which I liked a lot but ended up being the last one I've seen or maybe will ever see). Jeeze, whata buncha grumps. I'm going to see Phoenician tonite, and bet I'm gonna like it.

Re: Every review of a Wes Anderson movie
My buddy saw it and he's a big WA fan and he basically did this OP review when he told me about it. Even the fanboys are starting to get restless it seems.

Re: Every review of a Wes Anderson movie
It was delightful. Compared to all drecky previews I had to sit thru, it shined like a diamond.
