MLB Players Poll: Best player to watch; Best/worst orgs; Mgrs. to play for or avoid

Post by Pink Freud »

The Athletic today ran their results of a preseason survey of 130 MLB players, each given only one vote for each category:

The one player they most like to watch play: Ohtani, of course, came in first, with Bobby Witt second. However...one player chose Joe Musgrove, and another Luke Weaver. :?: It's really a shame Witt is stuck in K.C.; were he with the Dodgers or Yankees he'd have his own TV series by now.

The one pitcher hitters least want to face with the World Series on the line: Think 2024 Cy Young; but Tim Mayza :?: and Josh Tomlin :?: also got one vote each.

Manager they'd most want to play for, outside their own: Bruce Bochy 20, Oli Marmol....zero. 8O

Manager they'd least want to play for: Bud Black and Oli Marmol tied for first, with five votes.

MLB organizations with the best and worst reputations: BEST: Dodgers 82; Yankees 40; Cardinals....one. WORST: A's by far the worst; Cardinals 3 votes; Dodgers none.

Remember, these surveys of 130 players were conducted just before the season openers.

How interesting that in the category "Managers You'd Most Want to Play For", Mike Schildt got three votes; Marmol didn't appear, but Jim Leyland (last manager job 12 years ago) and Joe Torre (15 years ago) did. Note that, in that vein, nobody mentioned TLR.
