you lost me at Alexandrov

and they're not signing Ekblad to what will be a pretty big contract to play middle six

I don’t think the Blues will get him but if they’re going to throw money around this summer, he definitely fills a big need

I’d probably attempt 50 different options before considering Alexandrov as the 3C.

Incredibly doubtful Ekblad would sign here.

Not addressing Ekblad specifically but if the Blues do really find what they want and it's pricey I have zero doubt DA can swing it....or certainly make every effort to do so.

I'd prefer him to pick up an existing contract with a shorter term left on it than a 30 something 8 year UFA signing.

OT ...I thought the Avs got a steal signing Nelson to 3 years.

The key here is signing Ekblad for something less than the gold in Ft. Knox (if there is any). Given that:

1. The 3rd pairing and depth on defense is an obvious weakness. Too weak. FAR too weak.
2. Might have to "give away" Leddy and Faulk to pull this off, but if Ekblad is sought that highly team might be ok with that. Otherwise, where is the return for them?
3. In my opinion this fails to address the key issue at center. Relying on Alexandrov to help fill that hole is not a plan, it's a desperation depth callup move. I suppose he could win a job in camp but he is not going to produce like a seasoned NHL veteran. Which is also the issue with Dvorsky. Sure, need to give him room to grow during the regular season but he will in all probability be a far cry from what you need at 2C/3C to make a run in the playoffs this upcoming season. Which leaves Sunny. Again.

There are too many young wingers on the Blues and on the cusp of the NHL right now, and too many LD. Signing Ekblad might be a good move, they need an RD. If they move Faulk (to move his cap hit), they would need ANOTHER NHL RD.

I guess I don't see why why would spend our capital addressing our 2nd d pairing. I would personally call it a strength.

We were beaten with our 3rd pairing and 2nd line on the ice and both of those were highly effected by health IMO

I just don't think we're going to see a seasoned NHL vet type signing for anything outside of a 3rd pair Suter type. it's not been the recent plan of attack. And while we can be proactive and move some contracts out, you really just create a 2nd hole in the lineup to get a bigger UFA target. you plug one leak in the boat, another randomly spawns. It's why i think the trade route is where the magic happens this time around. Moving Faulk while ideal won't likely be the answer because of the lack of depth out there on that side. Leddy moving on the outbound if we make the defensive move, and most likely one of Texier or Joseph on the forward side, with little value added by those pieces in the move.

And to be honest, the moves that end up being some of DA's best are the ones where the fans don't see it initially, but after time the player proves their worth. When he goes for the bigger priced FA's, it hasn't worked quite as well.

Which ever team signs Ekblad will probably be significantly disappointed IMO.

Leddy will be easier to move than Faulk.

Ekbald is probably gonna be to much. I prefer Gavrikov or Provorov. I believe both play the LD side so we would need Broberg or Cam to play right D

so Broberg or Cam/ CP55
Provrov or Gavrikov( whoever we sign) with Broberg or Cam
Tucker/ Faulk

Wouldn't the Blues be better standing pat than moving Broberg or Fowler to the right side? Strikes me as the same issue in reverse of when they threw Faulk in with Pietrangelo and Parayko on the right side, the pieces don't fit.

So our solution at RD is to sign another LD and then shift a different LD to the right side? F no.

Broberg hated playing the right side in Edmonton and I bet a lot of Fowler’s effectiveness would be neutralized being forced to play the right side. It’s just a really bad idea.

If the blues come into next season with Alexandrov as their 3c then something went horribly awry with the offseason.

Point per game player in ahl. 24 years old # cemter in ahl

48 gp 21g 28a 50 pts +4

I think he could fill the third c we should know more in camp. The fl and mid.day espn also agree ekblad would be a good get and we could use his toughness. Perfect partner for broberg. Heavy shot and florida camt leep him
