This is a genuine question; I've never heard anything. It's the sort of thing that is always anecdotal, even coming from the players and staff.
We heard that they liked Knizner a lot after Yadi, and they like Pagés. Pozo has gained popularity. So usually we know.
Have there been anecdotes?
It's moot right now, he's going to continue to catch in 2025. They're not going to teach him a new position (or two) mid-season, definitely not when they are winning or even around .500, and already can't find playing time for everyone else. If this season looked like the Rockies', you figure anything goes.
I'm fine with 1 game at C per week, so that he can maintain his skills or "skills." When you have 6-7 catchers (including prospects) you know you're going to be trading some of them. Nobody is trading for a pure DH. [Not that I want Herrera traded, I'm just talking about maintaining his ability to backup catch, which adds utility.]
Also, what is the oldest that someone has converted from C to P? Just curious.
Can Herrera call a game?

Re: Can Herrera call a game?
TLR dugout was calling games well into Yadi’s tenure so I’m not even sure why this is an issue……

Matheny was calling games from the dugout.
Good pitchers throw what they want, when they want.
Not sure why a catcher calling a game is even a convo anymore.

Pitchcom available if he can't.
And even if they don't ant to use it then pitchers still have the final say, they can always shake him off but need to do it quickly w/the pitch clock.
That said.................HERRERA is NOT A CATCHER!
Like you stated, the pipeline if loaded w/catching prospects so his future isn't behind the plate and every GM in MLB knows it.
He should be DH-ing, catching no more than on an emergency basis.

It is not about just "calling a game".
It is about receiving the ball correctly.
It is about framing.
It is about handling balls in the dirt - and the pitchers all feeling comfortable throwing there.
It is about throwing arm.
ALL of these things, and more, impact pitching performance.
Worth nothing in the past 4 games, the opposition has scored an average of 10.5 runs in starts by Herrea and Pozo - but just 4 in the 2 games with Pages.
