DeFranks Article on Holloway
Another good read in the St.L Post Dispatch regarding Holloway's injury, rehab, & extension. Described only as a lower body injury, the original MRI indicated that surgery would probably be the option but other opinions were sought. What I found interesting was that after surgery, he said he was basically prohibited from movement having spent a couple of weeks on the couch on pain medication. I'm certainly not a doctor, but you would think that with a knee or hip surgery, rehab with movement starts very soon afterwards. I'm still assuming a hip injury of some kind, but wonder if it may have been lower back? Anyway he's skating lightly now & appears to be on track for a full recovery.
Discussed the success of the line he played on with Kyrou & Schenn. (Personally, I think that is the Blues 2nd line next year & the Blues will be looking for a 3C. I can't see Monty breaking that line up.) The article mentioned Holloway's work ethic & his affect on Kyrou.
Extension wise, he indicated how much he loved playing for the Blues, definitely interested in a long term deal. Something to the effect of its management's initiation, but definitely willing to play hard this year & let those results help determine his worth. Sort of paraphrasing there.
Another good read! Your thoughts on any or all of these topics??

Re: DeFranks Article on Holloway
During the first part of camp he stayed after and worked with Schenn a lot. As it got closer to the season he seemed to spend more time after practice working on stuff with Neighbours. The constant was that Holloway was seemingly always one of the very last guys to leave the ice. He's going to be a leader by example. Full recovery is all I want for him. When that happens, he's the player I can't wait to see.

Doubtful, especially if he has another year like this past one & he decides to wait to sign. For the Blues, if he would accept that offer after July 1, absolutely in a heartbeat!!moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑31 May 2025 09:30 amdef need to re-sign him. wonder what that extension looks likestlblues1979 wrote: ↑31 May 2025 09:15 am Another good read in the St.L Post Dispatch regarding Holloway's injury, rehab, & extension. The article mentioned his work ethic. One of the last to leave the ice & constantly working on things to improve his game. Excited for him to be a Blue & can't wait until his long term contract is announced!b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑31 May 2025 09:41 am During the first part of camp he stayed after and worked with Schenn a lot. Yeah it's a meteoric rise but I would do that deal to land him as well. It's not just the stats it's the player in him.stlblues1979 wrote: ↑31 May 2025 09:42 amDoubtful, especially if he has another year like this past one & he decides to wait to sign. I wonder if having this serious injury might motivate him to sign an extension this summer.

If he takes the Kyrou extension, I'll be very happy. He's easily a 7m player already, and with his work ethic and tenacity that figure will increase every year.

Re: DeFranks Article on Holloway
I think hes motivated to sign anyways. Seems to love being a blue, seems pretty close to kyrou and others, probably really appreciated the opportunity stl gave him. He seems cup driven, not money driven. If we dont sign him this offseason then we will have failed. Re: DeFranks Article on Holloway
Depending on the injury don’t you have to wait to see how he recovers and performs before a high long term contract?

Re: DeFranks Article on Holloway
I think that would be a consideration based on the nature of the injury. If the medical staff says that he will completely recover with no effects of the injury that are long term career concerns, I think you try to sign him soon. If he has another year like last year or even better, then the suggested offer of 7 x 7 doesn't get it done, IMO. Not with a rising cap in place.
Got to thinking about his injury & wondering if it might have been a severely torn groin. Remember Steve Ott's hideous injury. I'm almost wincing typing this. I think his muscle was actually torn away from the bone. I could see that if that were the case, you would basically be kept movement free for a couple of weeks as the article stated.

Re: DeFranks Article on Holloway
That’s kind of my thought……no rush to get it done on July 1st. But have the talks, let him continue to rehab, and if things go well and the doctors sign off on it, get the extension done before the season starts.
By the way, this story makes me a little bit annoyed, thinking about the news that came out in the days after his injury. The Blues twitter account jumped the gun a few days after the injury and said he would only miss a couple of games. They even used a Monty quote that seems out of context now. Then Jeremy Rutherford posts an update on the same day, like 4 days after the injury, suggesting the Blues seemingly dodged a bullet and the injury wasn’t serious. Now you read the story and it seems pretty clear that they knew the day after the injury that he would need surgery. Yes, they then got second opinions, but it seems like the prognosis was pretty clear right away. Oh well……doesn’t matter as long as he is 100% healthy.
Re: DeFranks Article on Holloway
I saw that on-line yesterday, good article, thanks to PD. No shame in both sides waiting to see how he responds health-wise. Hopefully he recovers all his speed and agility and the effects don't linger.

There was speculation it was a muscle tear so it may very well have been the oblique. If so then I don't believe it will cause any lingering effects once fully healed.stlblues1979 wrote: ↑31 May 2025 09:15 am Another good read in the St.L Post Dispatch regarding Holloway's injury, rehab, & extension. Re: DeFranks Article on Holloway
He and Broberg are both still RFAs. So, the Blues do have some time if the numbers don't seem to be reasonable at this summer. I am sure that DA/Steen know the potential that they both have.
Re: DeFranks Article on Holloway
What a great thread so far! I have not read the article...don't need to. All great posts, questions, thoughts. Actually very refreshing.
Love the comment by dsux, "...it's not just the stats, it's the player in him." Not belittling stats, but as a player he bettered the stats of many around him as well.
Most importantly, he's young, healthy, motivated...so let's hope his recovery benefits completely from all of that. Management will figure it out. They know what they've got in him.
