Are the Cubs at home, or Montreal Expos on the road?

Post by Clark Kimble »

Who designed those Cubs City Connect unis they're wearing today (Friday afternoon) at Wrigley?

Not only the same color as the Expos' old road uniform but a very similar numbers font; and white panel on the cap and shirt front that looks like a red, white, and blue neo-Cubs label pasted over Montreal's fleur-de-lis. All we need now is the Wrighey Field PA announcer calling "Warren...Cro-MART-tee!" and "Nelson...SAN-toh-VANE-ya".

Those old Expi teams put out a lot of talent.

Good trivia question. I believe they are the only team ever to have the most wins in their division and NOT make the playoffs.

In 1981 the Cardinals had the best overall winning percentage in the NL East. The Expos won one more game but they lost five more than St. Louis. The Cards did not make the playoffs as the Phillies won the first half and the Expos the second half after the strike. The Expos beat Philly to make the NLCS.

Good call!

That PA announcer always came through so loud and clear because the Expos crowds were few and far between in that cavernous mausoleum and echo chamber of Olympic Stadium...with the "automatic" roof crane eyesore that never worked.

Those fans deserved better. They certainly had the talent, in Andres Gallaraga; Tim Raines; Andre Dawson; Ellis Valentine; Gary Carter; Larry Walker; Vladimir Guerrero; Dennis Martinez; Steve Rogers, and so many more, making do in a horrible home (ahem) ballpark.
