Steve Ott and Claude Julien
I'm surprised that Ott is not getting any head coaching overtures,or does he want to be one? Will Julien be back next year, with the new coach in charge?
Re: Steve Ott and Claude Julien
Not bashing you, but what has Ott done to warrant any looks?
I doubt Julian is back. He was brought in to hold Bannister’s hand
Re: Steve Ott and Claude Julien
Steve Ott could be a guy who doesn't want to be a head coach, and there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe he likes what he does and wants to be in St. Louis like many other retired players. I'm thinking of a guy like Jimmy Roberts, who didn't really head coach much but was part of the Blues' culture.
And I agree. I see Julien most likely leaving. Unless there's some benefit to him there. Maybe he goes into more of a consultant role like Larry Robinson did.

I think our coaching staff has done an awesome job. I am happy to have Julien and Otter on the staff.
BTW, I was wondering if Bannister might be interested in coaching at Lindenwood. I would like to see a high profile coach there and they just lost their coach to Michigan Tech.

I wanted to get to a Lindenwood game or two but never did. Weren't they on the road for most all of their high profile opponents?hockey jedi wrote: ↑30 May 2025 14:23 pm I think our coaching staff has done an awesome job. I am happy to have Julien and Otter on the staff.

Yeah, they’re one of 4-5 NCAA teams that are independent, not part of a conference. So it’s hard to convince teams from other conferences to come visit STL and play a pretty low profile team, so most of their games are away games. It’s going to be hard to build the program IMO.dhsux wrote: ↑31 May 2025 12:30 pmI wanted to get to a Lindenwood game or two but never did. As for Banninster, other than being the coach of the Blues briefly before they pulled the rug out from under him, he has no affiliation with STL. I can’t imagine he’d want his next coaching job to be a couple rungs lower (college hockey) and at one of the lower profile college teams at that.

Yes I did not comment on Bannister but I agree with you.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑31 May 2025 12:42 pmYeah, they’re one of 4-5 NCAA teams that are independent, not part of a conference. He actually has a decent case to present himself for a NHL HC position or maybe assistant in waiting kind of deal.
Re: Steve Ott and Claude Julien
It’s interesting that Ott hasn’t been hired by anyone. I can see Monty bringing his own guy in and both being gone. Neither does much for me.

Yeah, I we replying to Jedi on the Bannister part. With Monty being hired mid-stream it made sense to keep the status quo. However, now he’s got a full offseason and will want to put his own guys in I’d think
Re: Steve Ott and Claude Julien
I wonder if part of his deal coming here with Armstrong was to be able to name HIS staff with his guys.Hopefully some new idea's -- Ott i think has used his time up. I can not think of anything outstanding he has done either with the power play or penalty kill.
Mike Weber has been so -so needs to teach to get the puck out of their end, or kill the clock with seconds left instead of blinding passing out .
Claude Julien I think was just here to hold Bannisters hand
Michael Babcock -- so what does he really do ?? I have never hear players say he has helped them ??
David Alexander -- ok he can stay -- steady presence for the goalies

It's interesting you mention Lindenwood being an independent & the difficulty that can be for a program. I live in Huntsville & The University of Alabama- Huntsville had a hockey program for quite some time & elevated its program to Division 1 for a while. But from what I understand, the lack of a conference affiliation really hurt the program. No high profile college teams wanted to travel to Bama to play hockey evidently. The program shut down a few years ago.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑31 May 2025 12:42 pmYeah, they’re one of 4-5 NCAA teams that are independent, not part of a conference. Another factor was the school was competing against the Huntsville Havoc, one of ten teams in the Southern Professional Hockey League. And the city loves this team. Leagues the league in attendance every year & has like a 40ish game consecutive sees out streak. Their arena holds about 6400. I've been to a few games in my relatively short time here in Huntsville. Great atmosphere & fan support. I think this league would be just a notch below the Eastern Hockey League maybe. Not sure if that's the right name. Anyway, the Peoria (Rivermen) & the Quad Cities have teams in the league. Kind of interesting.

I think I've asked you this before, but you will have to give me some good quick food recs in huntsville. I drive by it a couple times a summer. I usually try to bypass birmingham and get on the other side before I make a stop. Memphis I do the same,stlblues1979 wrote: ↑31 May 2025 16:16 pmIt's interesting you mention Lindenwood being an independent & the difficulty that can be for a program. As for why Ott isn't getting looks. I think there are a few things there. His stock was never higher 3 years ago. He was probably getting called about and I even think it was alluded that he was in the media. Last year during the summer, I distinctly remember during the "bannister hiring press conference" that Ott had said he wanted to stay put for a bit as his kids come of age. I don't know what that timeline is, but it doesn't seem like he's in any hurry to leave. He's getting opportunities on the national team levels at various age groups for different programs so maybe that scratches that itch for now. But some people don't want to be head coaches. If they have the right lifestyle and since Otter already made the bank, some people just aren't interested. Head Coach is very different than AC. AC get's to be buds with the guys and get more hands on training. Head Coach is the heavy and provides the system. They are coaching the coaches and keeping the players in line.

Ohio State came to St. Louis to play Lindenwood out at Centene. I went to the first of the two game series. The Lions looked OK early in the game I went to, but faded once OS got a couple goal lead on them. Lost that game 5-2, and lost the second game 3-2. Overall not a bad showing against a D1 team that was ranked #14 at the time they played.dhsux wrote: ↑31 May 2025 12:30 pmI wanted to get to a Lindenwood game or two but never did. I went to the Saturday game against Ohio St. It would be nice if they could get some bigger schools in there more often. I'd buy season tickets without a doubt....that arena is a fantastic place to watch a hockey game. Been there a few times for games now and its just a good time.SRV1990 wrote: ↑02 Jun 2025 10:59 amOhio State came to St. Louis to play Lindenwood out at Centene. I used to go to the Billiken games in the 70's. They regularly had Lake Superior State, Bowling, Green, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Minnesota....really high profile teams.
