Reid may be one of the most underrated left-handed defensemen in this draft, which could be because of his size of 6 feet and 190 pounds. However, his size hasn’t been a problem for him, as he uses it to his advantage, mainly on his skating. He moves quickly and is always willing to jump in offensively to keep the pressure in the offensive zone.
This has benefited the Kitchener Rangers on the power play, as THW’s own Jordan Orth mentions in his player profile that Reid is an “absolute force on the power play, quarterbacking the Rangers’ first unit and putting up the sixth-most power-play assists among defensemen in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) behind players like Henry Mews, Zayne Parekh, and Emil Pieniniemi.”
You’d also think a player of his size wouldn’t be as physical defensively, but Reid is the opposite. In almost every defensive play he makes, he closes the gap and denies opponents chances. He can combine his great skating ability with physicality to push opponents back. In addition, Reid has a great defensive IQ and knows where to be at all times when facing an offensive threat in his zone. He’s patient and doesn’t crack under pressure when he plays the puck or is in the defensive zone.

Reid is a really good player …definitely wouldn’t be upset with that pick. Much rather have Fiddler though if they go dman

Another mock draft:
https://www.bleachernation.com/blackhaw ... ojections/
19. St. Louis Blues — Cameron Reid, LHD
6-0, 175
Shoots: Left
The Blues need to add depth on the back end, which leads me to having a defenseman going to St. Louis in our mock drafts. Reid projects as a a potential power play quarterback with a big shot and offensive instincts.

He's a quarterback, for sure, back there. Mobile, willing to pitch in. Really offensively minded. For a 6' guy, plays bigger. Not sure we have a D man like him in our system.

He wouldn’t be my ideal pick simply because he’s a LD and we have a ton of those in the pipeline but he’d absolutely a good prospect. There’s about 22 players I’d be happy with at pick 19 (15ish of them we have no chance at) and he’s one of them. And one of the ones we absolutely have a chance at, so he’s definitely worth talking about.
Good two-way d-man, a little bit more on the offensive side. 54 pts in 67 games for Kitchener. A bit undersized at 6’0” though. A slight concerned he wasn’t very effective in the OHL playoffs. Just 5 pts in 14 games. I see him and Brzustewicz similarly. Reid has slightly higher offensive potential IMO but Brzustewicz is 2 inches taller and a righty and for that, I value Brzustewicz more. But Reid is consistently ranked higher so I guess we’ll see.

Another writeup from the "Big lunk Blake Fiddler has time to work on his bad defensive play and bad decisionmaking as soon as he gets to the NHL so it's not a big deal" guy!
Been mentioning Reid for awhile here. He's very competitive, just has the "I will help us win this game" gene so I like him.
When you look at Jiricek's skating and the way Hensler skates I can see them taking Hensler since they are both extremely good skaters similar size, though I slightly prefer Broo-STAY-vich.

I just wouldn't do defense with first rd. Unless it's at the top of the draft.
I don't see first rd defensive talent so much better then second or third. Unless it's at the top of the draft.
My six unasked for rules to drafting.
#1. Never do Defense with your first. Unless it's at the top.
#2. Unless very offensive minded. Always take skill over 200' with 1rd pick.
#3 never take goalie before 3rd.
#4 if going defense, before pick 50, always go for the two way defender
#5 after pick 50. Always take the bestest, biggest, defenseman available
#6 On offense, after pick50. always pick the bestest, youngest player available.

Cootes would be a nice get at 19. I’ve seen him lower than that in a few mocks. Nice projectable C. Ideally we get either a RD or C there. Assuming we don’t trade this years first for a youngish RD or 2C.

General concensus: BPA, no matter position.
Too hard to project and they are, afterall, assets. To be homegrown talent or to be traded.
