Winning tends to do that.

My opinion about trades has not changed really. Just a little early to get excited about. To take this team to next level some changes are going to have to be made through trades or free agents. This is going to necessitate some current good players going.
We need more power. Outfield is not settled. Please to see Walker improvement but I still have doubts. Plus we really need to get Donovan full time in infield. Moving Arenado is still a must in my opinion. I know many disagree.

I've been consistent.
Why allow Fedde, Miko, Matz, and Helsley to leave without any return? When they are doing well, it is time to trade.
PS - they aren't winning the WS even with these guys. (And no, this team isn't close to resembling the 2006 team.)

I agree with this approach. I'm not posting those things right now because they just seem to agitate people. The need remains. Beginning with tomorrow's game, we enter the middle 1/3 of the schedule which is tougher than the first 1/3. I also expect regression in our starting pitching. I'll wait a bit and maybe it won't be so controversial, or offensive to some to talk about some of the needed changes.Jatalk wrote: ↑26 May 2025 10:44 am My opinion about trades has not changed really. Also, make no mistake, I am not hating on the team. I like the team and think they are headed in a good direction. They are good and I am enjoying watching them play. We are a little ahead of schedule and that's a good thing, but we are maybe a season away from being contenders like we all want them to be.

"Nobody" because on this forum the next dynamic trade suggestion is always just one pitch or one plate appearance away.

The emergence of a stud bat- Herrera has hastened the performance but not the process.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑26 May 2025 11:08 amI agree with this approach. It's tough to favor trading guys when the fans finally have something to cheer about. I couldn't be happier with this team right now. But they should trade all of the expiring contracts before the deadline without hesitation. And Arenado.

I know I am in the vast minority on Helsley situation but depending on the return the Cardinals getting the comp draft pick (as odd it may seem on surface) could wind up better than what the team gets in trade return.
Example When Brewers traded star closer Josh Hader they got a 4 for 1 deal from Padres . Sounded good at the time but didn't really pan out for the Brewers plus Hader value was higher than Helsley right now. (Not only more dominating at time of trade but Hader had year and half left on his deal with Milw. .. Helsley deal expires this year ) .
Since Helsley in free agency would be get a deal totallying over $50M , Cardinals would get top tier comp pick .. like 34th overall in draft.
Hit on that guy and he could be far better than anyone in a Helsley deal. (note: Masyn Winn was a 2nd rounder and look how good he turned out )
Since Bloom is building this team , I do not discount the value of an added pick in the top 30+ in the draft.

2006 they squeaked into the playoffs. 2011 they were wild card. Currently 4 game lead in the wild card. If they remain in contention for post season you would throw away the season for a rebuild?

The team still needs to be aggressive at the AS break. Difference in discussion is which direction?
I for one expected them to be below 500 and 4th place at the break. if that STILL happens they need to trade Helsley, Fedde and Arenado for prospects. Must be aggressive.
But.... I'm beginning to think this isn't a mirage. Yeah, they still lack the big guns to match up against the LAD/NYYs of baseball but heck if they can win the division who knows. If they keep winning they need to add to the club for the stretch.
So yeah, not much to discuss now. Gotta wait and see if this holds up another 7+ weeks.

Throw away the season? Please. I would not "throw away" the opportunity to build for the future on a very slim chance of winning a World Series. "Throwing away this season" would be to make that myopic mistake.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑26 May 2025 13:10 pm2006 they squeaked into the playoffs. 2011 they were wild card. Have you compared the teams of 2006 and 2011 with this team?
First, that 83-win 2006 team was coming off two seasons of 105 and 100 Wins and had Albert who hit .331 with 49 HR and 137 RBI. The 2011 team had four all-stars with Albert, Holliday, Berkman and Yadier (his best offensive year). Plus Freese.
