Canes need a goalie now

Post by a smell of green grass »

Canes need a goalie, and they may be interested in one of ours.

While I love Binnington, and I don't want to trade him, I don't see the Blues winning a Cup anytime soon on the current trajectory.

The Canes have great prospects, and draft choices.

I'd try to make a trade to inject more young talent into the team. However, I would not give BInnington away. If we can't get a lot for him, I would be very happy to keep him.

An exceptional player at any position. If an unproven but highly-regarded prospect, I'd want 2 of them and a high draft pick.

I think i would just keep binner. I dont believe anyone in the league gives up that package for binnington. Especially in a world where jake guentzel didnt even bring back a high draft pick. I could be wrong tho

Would be suicide to trade Binnington at this point. This team has a lot of mojo going on and Binnington is one of the biggest reasons for that. Not to mention, we have no one capable of stepping up to take his spot.

Canes surprisingly need to address myltiole areas if they want to compete for cup. Their gm hugely whiffed the rantanen deal for the near term losing scoring upfront with necas.Stankoven and picks may workout but they are a compete now team. They are first and foremost making a play for marner. Lets see what money they have left to address goaltending.

My bet is that they don't go for Marner. Their hump to get over is Florida, not Kyrou. They need a plough horse, not a show pony.

Goalie may not be their top priority as you say, but if they do they will be after a Tchatchuk-like dude IMO.

The best scenario would be that they want one of our goalie prospects, and we can keep Binnington.

Agreed, mostly. Binnngton is one of the few that step up in the playoffs. The only way I'd trade him is if I was confident that we have at least 2 young ones with the same talent and nerves.

I'd by happy to keep Binner. I'd like to see him just stay here till he retires.

I think he is one of the few that could draw significant interest and trade value.

Not to mention that if we trade him, then Blues #50 Jersey sales will go down. And that is just SO crucial to the bottom line and success of the team, from what I have read on this forum too many times.

Couldn't agree more that it is important to keep valid jerseys on kids. Thanks for adding.

Please note here how I have poked the goat, and now I expect him to run off in the woods to disappear. With my move, I have now made him realize 1 important thing.

While it may be difficult to explain why IT IS IMPORTANT to keep jerseys on kids, it is even more difficult to explain WHY IT IS NOT IMPORTANT.

However, if he wants to argue it, I'm here in the wide open sunlit field.

There are probably 20+ teams that would, or should, kill to have a goalie like Binnington. A weak goalie is the easiest way for a good team to get eliminated in the playoffs, while a strong goalie is the easiest way for a mediocre team to make a run. How many great teams have failed to win a Cup because their GM’s are too stupid to address this issue? Dubas in Toronto was a great example and it rightfully cost him and ShanaClown their jobs. Edmonton is another great example…..best player in hockey and they are trying once again to ride Stuart Skinner to the Cup. Who knows, maybe he stays hot, but he is also the most likely reason they won’t win again this year.
