I really don't think its that complicated, we sucked, desperately needed good players, he is a good player, he wanted to be here, and Army knew the cap was about to increase a lot and we would have plenty of cap space.

I think you also have to consider we have had some pleasant surprises since then with Holloway, Bolduc, and Snuggs.

I also really don't understand why we would want to "get out of that contract" we have plenty of cap space now AND have plenty more coming off the books over the next few years. So much so it will probably be hard to use that money in any better way than Buch.

If we are targeting a NJ D, it's Nemec. Casey's a nice player but he's on the small side and doubt the Blues are going to give up valuable assets for a smallish D. If they could pry Nemec away, that's your RD for Broberg in the very near future. It's going to cost but in the long run worth it.

That said we can make do on D, we need a true 2C worse and not sure Mercer fills that even if available. He'd be an upgrade over Sunny but probably not worth the assets to get him and not be a bona fide 2C.
