When Ryan Helsley comes into relieve the Cards have 4 players starting drafted in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th rounds. Helsley was drafted in the 5th round.
That is pretty impressive. Can you name them?
4 starters and a closer drafted 5th round or later

Just guessing, but Donovan, Noot, Pages and ............................ Burleson? I don't consider Burly a starter, but that's my guess anyway
Re: 4 starters and a closer drafted 5th round or later
We really should do more in the international markets. Some teams have a lot of success there, while others are too cheap the spend the $.
Re: 4 starters and a closer drafted 5th round or later
It isn't always being cheap. The Cards strategy the past decade has been to carpet bomb with tons of lower $$ contracts, while ignoring the top prospects and putting more $$ to the top-rated guys.
I know it is not an exact science at 16/17 YO but this organization has had no success with the quantity of lower priced deals.
I would like to see them go big and blow most of the pool on a top-rated prospect for once.

I'm happy with the starting lineup and DH.CNYFan wrote: ↑22 May 2025 11:38 am It isn't always being cheap. The Cards strategy the past decade has been to carpet bomb with tons of lower $$ contracts, while ignoring the top prospects and putting more $$ to the top-rated guys.
