Team concept
OK, you have all noticed it. For the most part, these guys have totally bought into team concept and situational hitting. I credit Brown. The change has been incredible to watch since he took over as hitting coach. It seems all the players have bought into it. Yeah, you see a few bad ABs, but for the most part every player is going deep into counts when needed, moving runners, hitting sac flies, whatever is appropriate in the situation. It really has been a return to old school baseball hitting and it has been refreshing to watch. It is a very big part of why they are having success. Don't K, keep the line moving, move runners over, etc.. Take a swing for the fences only when the count if favorable and the situation is right. Two strike approach, put the ball in play. For an old guy like me it has been wonderful to watch some classic baseball. My 2 cents....

Last night two hitters one for us one Phillies went 13 pitch at bats. Ours was ten pitch. Both within a half inning of each other. Another went nine pitches.bccardsfan wrote: ↑15 May 2025 09:46 am OK, you have all noticed it. For the most part, these guys have totally bought into team concept and situational hitting. It's something I've noticed this year also. You just don't see first pitch pop ups/ flyouts as often as the last few years. Has to be part of BB's philosophy. Be patient, wait for your pitch type stuff.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑15 May 2025 09:52 amLast night two hitters one for us one Phillies went 13 pitch at bats. Ours was ten pitch. Hit the ball hard where it’s pitched. I think they are hitting harder balls, thus when they fall in, they travel.slimjay63801 wrote: ↑15 May 2025 10:56 amIt's something I've noticed this year also. Yes, and quite a few posters complained in 2024 that out batters were not aggressive enough at the plate. Too passive!bccardsfan wrote: ↑15 May 2025 09:46 am OK, you have all noticed it. Think Brownie found opposite. .. that too many were so anxious they were chasing and getting in hole big time.
Brown has game plan for each guy separately to swing at pitches best suited for their game. The player dictates NOT the pitcher I’d Broen’s philosophy.
Also his mantra that there a time to hit and time to slug based on situation..outs, runners on what bases etc.
The guys have bought IN. It’s more mental than physical.

Hi Bulldog! Great original post. Haven't been watching or listening to every game. Kinda following from afar, cuz I don't get every game for free like I used to. But I will agree with your premise, that the Cardinals always used to play team baseball, and we, as fans appreciated it. Cardinal fans were always complimented by national broadcast teams for giving a big hand when a righty batter would hit a grounder to the opposite field to advance a runner to 3rd with less than 2 outs; or advancing on throw home; or a good sacrifice bunt; or working a walk; or taking one for the team, etc.. Sometimes, it's the little things that make team baseball. And that leads to winning baseball. And that makes it fun to watch and listen to. Right now, Marmol and his staff have our squad on the right track. Credit where credit is due. Keep it up!!!

Re: Team concept
More important than slugging percentage seems to be the art of simply not making outs. No matter how you get it batting average or OBP. Our lineup has a high contact ability that seems to keep the wheels turning. Several hitters with above contact ability.
